Does anyone have any information on this freak of nature? It looks very cool...and expensive.

Questian Two: How well does Paul's Hatchet work as a hatchet? I was looking at a few picture but thought that the handle length would be insufficent to give proper leverage for chopping due to it's only 9.5 inches long. Field tests anyone?

The Busse Axe is from way back in the day. After all these years we've only see a couple pop up. I think one of the Hogs here actually owns two of them...don't ask me how that happened. Marc (aka Contender) also had one at one point. Not much to say about this piece...it's an axe :) The usual Busse style micarta handle slabs, all the ones I've seen have the old style slotted bolt handle fasteners.

Thanks. Way back in the day would mean like in the early 90s? (I just dated myself) What was it ment for? Was it designed for "tactical room clearing" or chopping wood? It looks like it would be equally suited in both these roles? Everything would run in fright. I take it you are saying Scott has one of these, am I right? Any experiences with Paul's Hatchet?

Well, I don't know what purpose it was designed for when it was made. I would tend to think utilitarian more than tactical. The Megladon was made for tactical pure and simple. Time frame about right, it was made in the 90's.

No experience with the pauls hatchet. Have never heard anything bad about it though...

I don't think Skunk has an Axe, if he does it's never been in any of his colection photos.

The Megladon is a very nice tool/weapon. I would like to compare that beast to the ATC VTAC. Do you know it was given to any special forces or the like? Do you know how much they were when they came out?

There is only one Megladon and it came out of the Custom shop for a custom order.

If You Were to Carry One Busse into Battle...

mmmm... axe you say? i know of a couple of Megalodon's out there, onewhoisahogwithcamels has one, i have one, and i think gundy also has one that he shares with porkgunner.

Very nice collection:

--I really like that Barrett M82A1 (I am right?)
--Early Steel Heart (Birds beak?)
--A couple of 50 cal. BMG magazines and loose ammo
--Early AK
--Some type of gas mask
--Colt 1911 (am I right?)
--Straight Handled Battle Mistress
--A half drunk bottle of Blue Label
--and a meaner (or leaner) street

Please correct my mistakes.

i thought of that, called jerry, he said " mask? we don't need no stinking masks!"

so i guess jwb will counter any effects a mask may be needed for...

also i don't drink n shoot, i confuse the bg's for my friends

Only that thing could make a Battle Mistress seem to be a reasonable size. :D I like that your rounds are about Mean-Street sized.

I wish the as a megalodon for Gunderhog and I to share. As for the Axes, I can tell you that they work quite well. :)

The Axe never really appealed to me. The Megladon is another story. Throw on some black canvas scales and I would be in heaven.

Heck yeah! Make it 3/8" and it would be even cooler! :D We ought to see if we could get Jerry to make a set in 3/8.

I'm so glad you brought it up first. If it had been me I'd get an ear full tonight :)

I doubt he would make a single order but maybe if there were more than one.

I'd sure as hell be up for buying one. Since it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity do we want double cut or hand finished satin? :D

How much? :D

ive only ever seen evidence of 3 axe's, and i beleive they were at blade '99. 2 of them had hooks on the back on the upper 1/4 of the spine, making it a firemans axe of sorts.

they way their set up, i think you could use the spine for leverage to some extent, but im not sure how they would handle as a normal ax being that it has a knifes handle rather then a standard straight axe's.

the pauls hatchet... thats an interesting little hatchet right there...

personally, i always felt that in that small of a package you could make a knife that would do its job better while it did put its weight forward more so then a normal knife at its length, i felt it was slippery in the hand (with the 3rd gen style handle) and that the edge geometry could have been more acute...

but at its given task, such as trimming tree's or tight spaces when gardening, it does okay. specifically on 1 1/2" ot thicker branches where you cant get a proper ax or larger knife in its place...

i guess i didnt like it so much because it filled a nitch that was so small and easy to fill with other tools that i chose the other tools over it.

the axe is only an inch or two longer then the battle mistress's as a side note (at least, the old models.. not yet sure about the fusion version). given that it would have a totally different balance.

random photo's of the pauls hatchet to give an ide aof its size -
