The Steel Heart Variant/Battle Mistress Prototype looks awesome. Are there any plans for it to become part of the regular production line? I would buy it now if funds allowed, so I hope it isn't a one of a kind because I definitely want one in the future.

Unfortunately, the knife you are referring to is an original Battle Mistress prototype.

Busse Combat's old plan was to make a longer version of the Steel Heart...this knife is that prototype.

There are no plans to produce one in the regular line.

Thanks for the quick reply. I always wanted a Battle Mistress with the point of the Steel Heart, the prototype is exactly what I had in mind. It is unfortunate I can't take this off your hands, but Busse does have a custom shop right?
 
Yes...the custom shop does exist.

Busse Combat's pricing for any work from the custom shop is at $100/inch right now. Lead times are approximately two years for full custom pieces by Jerry himself. Semi-custom pieces are a little less expensive and a little less lead time.

That custom shop price of $100 an inch *includes* the handle.

I wanted a 4 1/2" blade INFI knife made of thinner steel than he normally uses (1/4" steel is kind'a ridiculous in a short bladed knife)..., but when I found it would run me about $900 (blade plus handle), I put that idea on the "back burner"

Jerry did say, though, that he supplies INFI steel to a custom maker, and it's likely that maker could make a custom knife for considerably less. Don't have the maker's name or number with me now, though....

Just some food for thought...

The 1/4" thick Badger Attack and Mean Streets are fully flat ground and EXCELLENT cutting and slicing tools. I think you would be pleased with either of the standard models...

I would prefer the geometry on the standard models for being more robust, but it is always nice to see variations. Thanks for posting up the pictures.

I think the name VARIANT is good but shouldn't Busse go along with the "nuclear tough" image of their knives and call these MUTANTS?

What a marketing plan that would be. I can't imagine any copyright infringement with that. After all, who else makes knives that could be called MUTANTS without worrying about name-calling?

All of the Busse crew likes the Mutant name...it will probably be interchanged with the Variant term for a while...feel free to use either for the time being.
