The Cantina

Howard that looks like a Utilikilt you are wearing ? - looks like either the survival or the workman version ? - i have been wanting to get a pair but a little expensive i have to save up for em - how do you like them?

Yeah, I'd be totally cool with us flying under the radar. I certainly don't want to see the place turned into an exclusive's club, but there has been an influx of troll-like behavior coming from folks just wanting to spout of on some topic.

The Cantina will always be an open and welcoming place. But like most of the best holes in the walls, you should know where to look to find it;)

Howard that's one of the best ideas I've seen anyone come up with since we even had an idea we were getting, "The Cantina!"  :D

Jake's pretty much spot on about his statement... "but there has been an influx of troll-like behavior coming from folks just wanting to spout of on some topic." The fact is that has been a problem here pretty much from Day (1) One, the best I can remember... :( :grumpy:

that 'what's new / new posts' button is a pain, as it brings up forum post i have no interest in. i'd be happier if it only listed new posts in the hi forum and the cantina, but keeping off the list will keep out the casual trolls while letting those who really want to get in the cantina able to do so.

i like the old analogy of the cantina being a country store where you can stop by and grab a chair near the pot bellied stove, grab a cracker out of the barrel and have a cold one with the rest of the boys and gals. feel free to discuss almost anything as long as you stay polite and remember that everyone there is the owner of a BIG knife or two and knows how to use it. like the country store, you have to come in, and hang around a while over a few days, participate and let the locals get to know you are one of them before they'll accept you and let you sit closer to the stove.

As long as I don't make any posts about islam the cantina will probably be alright. Guilty as charged.
I won't apologize for stating what I know to be true, only for disrupting the normal peaceful flow of the HI cantina.
Apologies to all. I will refrain from posting on the subject in the future if it comes up again.
Peace, love, and khuks.

Dude, religion is completely fine, we are not persecutive here in the Cantina. We just want, as you said, the peaceful flow of the HI cantina to remain steady, in other words, try not to force your views on someone else, because that is unjust. We can believe what we want to believe, and that is what makes this place beautiful, virtually no prejudice and judgment, because what can we judge, the way we speak, which changes on our mood? The dorkiness or awesomeness of our avatars? The only judgment people can make about us lies in our profile picture, and if someone is secure enough to post their own picture as their profile and avatar, then they are probably over any haters, like my 'home slice' Eric. If I am wrong, and misrepresenting anyone here, or misinterpreting the laws the moderators have laid down, please, by all means, call me out on it. But that is what I perceive. Oh, and nice hat, Howard Wallace. I wish I could look as naturally suited to that place as you do, its like you chameleonized yourself or something. Cool stuff, and nice pictures, as Pete said, without any homosexual meaning, you are not at all ugly. Yeah *awkward pause*, peace everyone, and have a nice day.

I like them. That is the survival model that Red Flower got for me. I also have the workman and another I think is the standard model. The Utilikilt home base is not far from me, so I have the luxury of stopping by the shop and getting fitted.

Sandals and a kilt are great for traveling. No worries about clean underwear and socks.

I think taking the Cantina off the "New Posts" list is a good idea, But....
I don't see this recent problem as an influx of trolls. Sure we get em...and we deal with them. Usually a word or two suffices.
I'd like the Cantina to be a place where we can discuss anything....even religion..honestly and without repercussion. But the discussion needs to be moderated. It would help us mods alot if people would use the "report post" button to report bickering and fighting in such threads. I tried to keep up with the religion thread and wasnt able to, or i'd have closed it if i saw a problem. Thank you to Howard for being there to do so when needed.

We have forums where we say we can discuss anything and we have forums for specific hot-button topics. Politics is a hot-button topic and it does not belong in the open forums. It belongs in the Political Arena, where we have rules governing format and presentation, and mods with experience dealing with it.

When religion is presented as a socio-political issue, it belongs in the Political Arena. When members of the Cantina discuss spiritual issues, we understand all religions are trying to understand an underlying reality. Whether you believe that reality to be spiritual or psychological, it is an individual's experience that matters.

Signing people up for a group assault on other groups doesn't qualify. Diatribes don't qualify. Arguments generating bitterness are a show-stopper.

I dig that kilt, Howard:) Of course, I have to be honest, this is the first time I've ever complimented a man about wearing no pants :D

That picture reminds me of this very well known yet still tough to find hole in the wall in Newport, Kentucky (you could hit Newport with a rock from Cincinnati) called The Blind Lemon. Up on the top of the rolling hills of Kentucky right before they dump into the Ohio River, there sits a little uptown/downtown eclectic area of Newport. The Blind Lemon sits right off the street, but to get there you have to squeeze through an alley about as wide as the door shown. The "bar" is actually just an outdoor court of left over space between all of the surrounding building built 100 years ago. It's just big enough to have a little bar with an overhang and maybe 10 tables spread through out.

My wife and I took a long weekend to Newport and spent every night there. Sitting out under the Kentucky stars in late July sipping on a cold cocktail and all was right with the world. Actually, that little weekend spent at The Blind Lemon and its live music (upbeat yet quiet) inspired us to plan for our semi-retirement. In about 20 years we'd like open our own little hole in the wall.

a good company really well made thanks for the clarification - i thought it was their style. - you touched on the other problem - mail order clothes i would rather try them on before i pay that much money

thanks again ; Eric

Very well said.
I don't think anyone regularly posting here actually thinks that they are going to change another man's mind by extemporizing one sided viewpoints.
However, The underlying reality of which you speak is, to me, quite subtle.
Sometimes a good friend can mention something that can cause a cascading effect in a receptive ear, leading to a deeper understanding of said reality.

Neither do I, we see those few guys around BF all the time.
To me, they seem to be almost more preoccupied with debating religion and politics than anything else at BF.
I'm sure the "Is J / G? " thread title created a BF vortex in the "new posts" listing that sucked them in like the vacuum that exists in outer space.

I have a PM in to Yangdu to get her thoughts before proceeding on the "new posts" search idea.

...

So real "hole in the wall" places can still survive the US fire and building codes?" That's a surprise.
