Hi there!

Never had a Bonestag Case before and planing to get one, i have sold all my Case knives and realize maybe i should get at least one for the collection, i had a very nice Case smooth antique bone tribal lock before (one of the few knives i regret selling...) and since that model is Out of stock everywhere, it would be a nice time to try a Bonestag Tribalock, but i don't find a lot of info about Bonestag and most of the pictures on the internet are the production Bonestag pictures. I made a search on BF and found some variations and tought it would be a good idea to made a post to show them!

What is Bonestag (From Case XX website):

Genuine Case BoneStag® has evolved from genuine jigged bone treated under an open flame exactly as they treat Genuine Stag. This beautiful treatment gives each handle a unique golden brown look. This striking family of knives from W.R. Case and Sons has the unique designation 6.5. Because the handle is made of bone, it should have a pattern designation of “6” and because of its Stag appearance it has been given a “5”. Therefore, the “6.5” pattern number has been created.

Like jmh33’s pictured above, the bottom one first pic, that’s basically how they fade.
That one has never been carried since new.
Musta faded in the box?? 🤔
I am guessing it’s color has to do with hafting??

Could be, or just lighter hues on that one.
The carried ones I’ve seen posted just get lighter all around. I don’t have one to share here though.
**edit : hues - instead of “dyes”
less heat treat as well?

I've had a few and they don't compare to real stag but they are usually a nice change of pace. Here's a photo of a Tribal lock in bonestag. It's not the best example but I like it.View attachment 1767144

Keep in mind, they do fade… this one is always in the dark, for good measure.

This Sowbelly will be here Thursday.

Alan, Gus, and ED, those are superb examples of Case bonestag!:thumbsup::cool: I really like the bonestag that has the darker reddish brown color on the smooth parts of the bone.

I have some bonestag/stagbone (stagbone seems a more logical name to me 🤓) models from other makers, but no Case bonestag so far. If I had a guarantee to get a sowbelly colored like the one ED has on the way, I'd be on it in a New York minute, as they say!
