I finally got one of my grails, the Decepticon DCPT Tano 5 (try sneaking that name past auto-correct). I wanted it because I already had the WE Eschaton -- Elijah Isham's masterpiece. The Tano 5 by Alexey "Ratatuy" Konygin seemed much like it, while much different at the same time. Also a masterpiece to my eye. Both of these knives are extremely well made. Both drop shut. The Tano 5 drops shut so fast and so effortlessly that it's almost dangerous. Both are big knives, but the Tano 5 is much bigger.
The Tano 5 is my only CKF and probably my last because of the prices. Although I'd like to get the Decepticon 1.
The Tano 5 is just outrageously complex, especially the handle. It seems alive to me.
Look at how well the pocket clip blends into the handle (below).
Below are my three favorite EDC knives -- all big. The Tano 5, the Eschaton and a 20-year-old Benchmade Rukus that has been used very, very hard for all of those 7,000 days and is just back from a long day's work (scraping caulking, chopping brush, and never-ending cutting duties around the homestead). It makes the other knives look small, but they are not. The Rukus -- this one with a Vanax reblade -- is a bruiser. (4.5 inch blade and a 10.2 inch OAL) I'm afraid to use the other two.
