I am a Cold Steel fanboy. Seriously, if there is a 12-step program out there, please let me know, but to tell you the truth, I am not sure that I want to be cured. In my opinion, Cold Steel knives are the best value going. While the Cold Steel AD10 (my personal fave) is the best knife money can buy, and the Cold Steel Voyager is the best knife you can buy for $50, there is another knife by Cold Steel that is just an utter BEAST in its own right----and that is the Cold Steel 4 Max Scout. If I had to take a folding knife instead of a fixed blade knife into a situation that required a survival knife, the AD10 and 4 Max Scout this would be the the two knives I'd pick!

The lockup on this 4 Max Scout is like a bank vault with the Cold Steel tri-ad lock, and this knife is just an absolute BEAST. It's big and it's big some more! It has great ergos, feels strong in the hand, great grip, etc. My knife came literally hair-shaving sharp, and while I would always prefer a fixed blade knife for survival applications, this knife could serve as survival knife in a folder knife's capacity. As far as a heavy duty folding knife goes, I cannot recommend this knife highly enough.

I tell you what, as far as a survival knife goes, after using this thing, I just don't see a situation this thing can't handle.

You may be doing Cold Steel more harm than good .

Gross hyperbole aside , the old school Cold Steel was generally a great value for strong and reliable knives , IMO .

With new ownership by GSM , this is now in question . Remains to be seen , but it doesn't look promising so far .

the crkt hissatsu folder is better

The 4-Max Scout successfully passes destructive testing with flying colors.
Do note that you're still going to shear through any pivot with batoning so a folder is never a true replacement for a fixed blade, but this is about as close as you'll ever get (especially for just over $100).

The 4 Max Scout doesn't crack the top 10 folders I would take in a survival situation, because folders DO NOT behave like fixed blades. I wound prefer other virtues beyond strength of the lock or much of a beast it is.

Folders in a planned survival scenario are a fool's errand. You either A) chose poorly and now have to make due with a tool not fit for what you need it to do. Or B) found yourself in a situation where ANY tool is going to he looked as a gift from the gods. A Vic Classic, an old dog food can lid...anything. You either pack what you need or thank your lucky stars you have something to press into service, like a folder.

I would be more apt to have something that doesn't weigh a ton on my person in an unexpected situation. I think that I would probably pick my CRK large Inkosi over all of my folders just because I know what it can handle AND know I would be most likely to have it on me. If it's nor an OTF, it's the Inkosi in my pocket.

Now if we are going to force the idea of a folder for a survival knife...OK, I'll play. Cold Steel Pocket Bushman. Terrifying to use finger biter of mediocre steel. However, a solid piece of steel rammed up the keester of a solid folded steel handle that wedges the tang and spine of the handle so that nothing short of snapping the blade the pivot will kill the knife makes for a passable substitute to a fixed blade.

I still hate that knife. Totally unsafe design, but I can't in good conscience give it to anyone lest they get cut to bone by that guillotine.

I feel like a jerk for saying this, but based on your previous posts, I'm extremely confident you wouldn't be the opinion I'd consult for a survival knife pick. Alternatively, I think you'd get a lot more positive traction on your posts in terms of credibility if you posted pictures of these "beastly" knives, or simply an over the top video that matched the persona you're going for.
