Recently after reading about the new Police 3 model shipping to collectors I though that considering the benefit of getting new models first, It might be a good idea to became one as well :D

Could anyone explain me how to become the collector ? I search the Spyderco website but did not find any clues about that.

First of all, be aware that the collectors don't always get their knives first, but they always get them. In the last couple of years, there have been quite a few models that were generally available long before the CC numbered pieces appeared.

As for how to sign up, contact Customer Service. I don't recall who is in charge of the club (I have a terrible memory for names) but I'm sure they know ;).

Hi Vince,

Right now the collector program is having some difficulties and will need to make some adjustments.

The problems are the result of too many new and variant pieces all being completed at a similar time. Though that wasn't part of the plan, plans with new models almost seem to be a victim of weather.

We'll be working on this in the next few weeks while we plan '09 models line-up and intro dates for new models already in the pipeline. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sal,

I'm not following. How does the weather factor into availability of the collector pieces?

I've been in the club for a year or more and haven't been very happy with the speed of delivery, but have always been able to get one of each new model. And that's a good thing. But honestly I could have gotten every model I really wanted through normal channels.

I hope you can get things working more smoothly for the collectors.

Thanks.

I took your advice into heart and already did that. I even receive the reply that my request is on the works :)

Thanks for the explanation Sal. If I may suggest something to improve the program, you could took into consideration starting some advertising of the collector's club on Spyderco website. I did not find any information about that there.

Hi Slatts,

The "weather" was a joke meaning it was difficult to get vendors to meet delivery time commitments.

It's the speed of delivery that has been an issue for one reason or another.

Hi Vince,

The problem is too many models. Increasing the number of collectors will probably increase the problems.
