The Coming Ice Age

This is good wisdom IMO. I'm not arguing for living harder on the earth. Just don't think we caused this particular cycle.

You could be right. I wouldn't want to bet against you; not that this is a betting matter!

I think we've advanced quite a bit...just to realize that there ARE cycles, and that we must ready ourselves for them. I'd like to see genuine scientific work continue -- to more carefully identify these cycles and improve the reliability of whatever predictions are possible.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Man I want an Ice Age, it would be nice to live in a cooler climate. Was 129F here the other day.

The funny thing is that lots of facts are available from university and NOAA sites.

Sea level rising? The seas have risen apx 300 feet in the last 18,000 years. SUV's? :confused:

Human generated Carbon Dioxide? TREMENDOUS 6,000,000,000 tons a year --- out of a total of 186,000,000,000 :p (rotting plants, cow farts, etc. etc, - 90,000,000,000 tons).

Hot years in last 100? No. 1 1935 No. 2 1920 No. 3 A tie - 1930/1955 (apx since I have a hard time reading NOAA's chart).

Carbon dioxide and warming? Warming causes the seas to give up carbon dioxide.

So ask yourself, "Does Al Gore cause the Earth's excentric rotation and orbit or the cycles of variation in solar radiation reaching Earth?" While he is pretty heavy (off-center weight), probably not his fault. He's off the hook.

What to do? Don't invest in rebuilding New Orleans (already below sea level;); learn to ski and swim as NV suggests;

IMO, the main advantage of the Global Warming hype is that we can reflect on how to better use our natural resources.

Just 'cause there's an abundance now, doesn't mean we have to waste it.

Thank you Thomas. Great post. Its a funny fact to learn that only 3.2% of carbon dioxide is from man.

We are in perfect tune on this one. Brother Gore may be full of condensed apple pie, but I think his heart is in the right place. However misguided, his call to greater responsibility is, indeed, a call for reflection. A respected geologist I know in the oil business recently told me "No teaching geologist I am aware of supports Gore's concept of global warming." He went on to suggest I read up on the Gaia Hypothesis, referring to it as intriguing (sp?).

I would also assume that we're going to eat and clear cut ourselves out of house and home long before the temperatures caused by larger scale global changes are truly effecting.

I bought a bunch of jared diamond books on my brothers recomendations, and I still havent read them yet... apperently they are very good :confused:
