The Coolest gadget you have.....

Somewhere between 5 and 15, depending on where/how I am driving. It's actually pretty economical, compared to a Ford Excursion or something similar. Diesel fuel here is about 60 cents/gallon cheaper than gasoline.

And it goes 0-60 in 18 seconds! A real speedster. Corners amazingly well, though, due to the wide stance.

Hmm, well I like my Cartier pen, my Cannon A2e camera (it focuses wherever your eye looks), and my roven dino automatic watch.

On a side note, I have never really liked quartz watches, but the Tissot T touch and the breitling quartz display watches are pretty awesome.

Breitling actually has a watch available to the public with a built in emergency beacon. If you are stranded you unscrew what looks like a second crown, and antenna pops up, and a built in emergency beacon gives off a signal for several days!

I've got one of those - the Breitling Emergency. I almost had to deploy it last year when I went overboard from a sailboat in 45 degree water. Brrrr.

MORE MEGALOBYTE MORE!

That Trilobite, how was it unearthed and cleaned so well?

Amazing...

I would enjoy seeing more too. Megalobyte, you have some neat stuff. Do you have any fossil vertebrates? Where are your favorite collecting sites?

Elvis and Tarsier. Wow, thanks for the interest and kind words, sometimes i think im one of a very few who appreciates "gadgets" of the natural world. I sell fossils for a living, specializing in high-end, museum-grade Megalodon and other fossil shark teeth, but i have sold some really fantastic trilobites over the last few years, one of which you have now seen. It was found in St. Petersberg, Russia, meticulously prepared by one of the world's best, and yes, the detail was phenomenal, which is why i got a very good price for it. Wish i could have afforded to keep it! I dont collect fossils myself, i do however buy directly from the guys who find them, and we get in material from all over the world, most of the fossil shark teeth are from the Carolinas, which is very prolific for shark teeth. Every now and then i sell a dino tooth as well. I know this sounds like a shameless plug, honestly its not, but if you want to see some of the best stuff we have ever sold/handled, go to my website and click on the "Gallery" link. The stuff isnt for sale, but its nice to look at. Its at :

Also, if you want to see my small collection of custom knives, which is part a larger gallery of others i have seen on the net, its at

Thanks again for the kind words, nice to know im not the only one who appreciates gadgets of the natural world. :)

Blades

Sas,
What a cool watch!! I couldn't remeber what the Nixie tubes were called when I first posted. Did a search, and refreshed my memory. How long have you had it??

A several pairs of NOG's. . .

For the vision impaired. . . NOG's are NVG's or Night Vision Goggles. :D

one of my favorites is my new titanium zippo, or my monte blanc which was just given to me.

sas,
...That IS a cool wristwatch, and it's the first one that I've ever seen that runs on an "AA" battery! Thanks for the picts...:).

Blades- it's a wristwatch, here's a more illustrative pic...
sas, that is a nixie tube wrist watch! I am old enough to have worked with equipment that used nixie tubes for display (the equipment was old at the time I used it). This was how numbers were displayed before they had LED digits. I am amazed that it works on a AA battery since the voltages were quite high. Maybe the "Krusty Brand" batteries have extra oomph ;) (second picture). I would appreciate any details you can add about your interesting watch.

Me too. Actually, I keep a small collection of stuff with Nixie displays--clocks, calculators, receivers, test equipment--just because I always liked the unique look of Nixies.

The watch was designed by a semi-evil genius who designs wafer testing equipment in real life. The inspiration for running Nixies from an AA battery came from the circuitry found in a cheap disposable flash camera. An equally pressing problem is that Nixies are no longer being produced, and the subminiature size can be hard to find.

Here is the full story on the watch. They are sometimes available for sale, on an irregular basis--depends both on availability of Nixies and spare time.
