The "Core" knife.

For me it is the 83 Tascosa with green micarta covers. It seems to almost always find a place in my pocket, off centered blade and all.

I do have to admit the off center blade bugs me to no end but it is such a great little knife otherwise.

It had been the yellow delrin Sodbuster Jr., as a do-it-all edc and work knife. Now, though, I think the core knife is the new 440C #15. Sodbuster will remain the hard working knife. However, this 15 isn't exactly replaceable, so it's backup is a Case Half Whittler.

Kamagong, thanks for the original pic. That's a great looking knife. Keep adding character.

This little Imperial whatchamacallit. Boy's knife? Screwjackknife? I dunno, but it sure is a hard worker. I use the screwdriver as often as the blade. Shell construction feels cheap but it's so light that it's a dream to carry.

It often gets paired with my little Remmy Half Congress. The 440a on this is so nice I'd put it right up there with GEC's 440C in terms of edge retention. The Sheep/Pen combo is such a winner and it's thinner than my new SS#15 single blade!

Together they ride side by side in a watch pocket with spare room to pull them out. My twenty dollar dream team.

This has been a great read guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one that freaks out when certain knives don't get their pocket time.

My "core" knife for years was my Case Peanut. Always in my watch pocket with a larger knife in my main pocket. Bought a GEC Coyote and the poor little Peanut got put away. I like the slimmer feel of the Coyote and the Wharncliff is perfect for 90% of my needs.

I've been trying different patterns lately looking for exactly what we're talking about. I think the closest I've come is a Case canoe. I like my large stockman better, but I prefer that in a sheath. If I have a belt on (everyday) there's already a sheath on it with a 110 in it. I guess I can say the 110 is "my knife", but I'm looking for something for my pocket that I grab without hesitation everyday. I really like my texas jack as well, but the canoe has taken that spot for now. I definitely want to get a peanut and see how that works for me. Until then, I think I can say an amber bone canoe in CV is my go to....

I've carried this little Ohta in my Mission Wallet for years now. I always have my wallet with me and I always have a sharp pointy knife when I need it. At 2 3/4" long, .25" thick and 1.16 oz I don't even know it's there.

At least in my own mind, my core knife is a 4" stockman. But because I get so sweaty at work, and most of my stockmen are in carbon steel, I carry an alox Cadet or Electrician more often. So it's one of those three.

Those 'yotes aren't just threats to peanuts and other small knives. Looking back over the last few months' worth of carry photos, two of my 'yotes seem to be creeping up on my big 6375 in terms of sheer frequency of carry. I'd go so far as to say that if I hadjust one instead of two user 'yotes (plus a couple Beagles that get into the mix), it would be far and away the most-carried knife in my collection.

Leatherman Wave is mine, simply because it has the most tools and it's the most heavy duty of all things I've carried or thought about carrying.

But, it's biggest shortcoming is the fact that it's so un-ergonomic as a knife. It's smooth and slippery with a big heavy handle and a skinny little blade. I'm always afraid it's going to slide back into my hand and cut my fingers.

Which is what brings me here to the traditional area, I'm on the lookout for a simple companion that's a knife, only a knife, and is an expert in its field.

My "core" knife for several years has been a Jerry Halfrich Baby Rounder. A bit over 3" closed with a very useful blade design.

Nice knife- looks like a smaller #74. Wonder if GEC will do that at some stage

This is my "Core Knife " . A 73 with Burnt Stag slabs . I have had it for almost exactly a year now and have had it in a pocket probably 80 % of the days. Early pictures.

It is the knife that I use outside.

Here's the thing about finding a knife that is "the one".

We are each different people with different jobs, hobbies, honey do lists, etc. Everyone single person here will gravitate towards the knife that fills those roles for YOU the best. You know what knife it is so stop being in denial.

We tend to see others post what they consider it is and works for them. You know which one you tend to go back to consistently. Stop searching and accept it. 😀

Good post Jack. 👍

Victorinox Manager. In the past it was my secondary, currently it's my primary (and only) carry. Used to carry it on my keyring, now it goes in my watch/coin pocket. For my lifestyle (living in the suburbs with small children), it covers all of my non-kitchen cutting needs: blade for packages, scissors for tags/stray thread, drivers for changing batteries in toys, tweezers for ... well ... tweezing. The pen also gets a lot of use from signing receipts and checks to writing messages in birthday cards for all of the parties I attend for my children's friends (toddler birthday parties now comprise the majority of my social life). The best part is that the Manager was a gift from another forum member.

Keep coming back to this one, Been in my pocket for the past year pretty much, nothing survives long in comparison. Queen Copperhead in CZ.

Vic. Classic on my key-ring for the scissors and tweezers and a Vic. Soldier in RFP works for me most days.

On the traditional front, for years I considered a standard two blade Barlow to be "my" knife. But now thinking about it, I haven't carried one for quite some time. Recently been loving the versatility of a 2-3 bladed stockman/serpentine, with at least one blade with some form of belly, and one sheepsfoot/coping. So really loved last years forum knife.

But also recently discovered the ease of carry of the humble Peanut. Mostly as a second, third, or fourth knife dropped in pocket, just for the option. So have a Beagle incoming just because of the blade config. Really excited for that one.

Although in the back of my mind, I can't extinguish the idea that the Barlow is still "my" knife. So I really need to pick up one with a clip or spear combined with sheep secondary. Why I haven't yet simply defies logic.
