It would be interesting to know who. Someone on BF recently posted a list of all known Mnandi inlays (you?) and I don't recall seeing Black Ash even listed?

That had to have been Falco, he knows a LOT more about Mnandis than I do. But then, so do several folks in here.

I did but at that time I didn't know there has been an Black Ash Inlay

Me too, but it is not a scrimshaw, it is engraved.

Basically "scrimshaw" belongs also to the group of engraving techniques. But commonly scrimshaw means engraving/carving on bones, tusks, very often used on ivory material. Whereas when people talk about "engraving" most of them do mean engraving on metal.

The difference, as far as I know, is in the way you engrave the material. While the scrimshaw is done with a series of tiny dots in the engraving, like this, you remove the material.
