The cult of the peanut.

Nice pipe.. And heavens! that is a great color match...Which handle color/designation is that one? The new dark red bone or vintage perhaps?

I forgot before, I have carried several other knives with the peanut, but in the... wow.. entire 5 month time span so far, only twice has the peanut not been the one used. The others ride along, but never get any work anymore...

I admit I have joined the peanut club all because of Jackknife and his great writings and prefer a stockman around 4 inches but am intrigued with the peanut.

Thanks Ice. That's actually the new "Dark Red Bone", it was actually much brighter and bled out a lot on the pile side, so I brushed it down with a bit of Earl Grey tea to give it an older look. I think it came out quite nice with the color, although the picture doesn't really do it justice.

At the very least everyone should own two peanuts. An everyday nut like this Case 6 dot and for more formal occasions when stepping out in high society, something along the lines of this amber stag file worked Don Morrow. :D

Please explain the Earl Grey tea!

Just re-read my post and wanted to add that when I carry my peanut as the second knife it does pretty much 99.9% if not 100% of all duties calling for a knife, save when I'm hunting, there its at about 80% (so much for my hunting skill/luck lol) and I'm sure I could use the peanut in a pinch:D
I carry a peanut mostly as a second knife when I'm carrying a Tact/pocket clip style knife or a fixed skinner while hunting. When I'm carrying just 1 knife its always a larger slippie pattern.

I'm ashamed to admit that I don't have a Peanut even though I am a small knife fan. Does my Schrade Pocketpal count? :)

Growing up around the Amish, the only knife you could get without a special order was a CV Soddy Jr. We did EVERYTHING with that. I then got a Buck Cadet, and a Peanut. The Peanut is capable of 99% of all my chores on the FOB, outside the wire, or even butchering large carp, goats, a cow, and 2 donkeys here. When I get home, I'll use my cadet for deer & bear but if I forget it & only have my Peanut I KNOW it'll do the job. All you got to do is take your time and think what you want to accomplish.
Plus it's cute like me.:D

Mike's first Peanut
I love the little guys, they ride well in my jeans' watch pocket and do most of everything needed. I started carrying mine around 1967, then it was a Case stag. Over the years the brands and names have changed but the pattern is still one of my favorite EDC's.

It's a matter of practicality for me. The peanut is a pattern that can be carried comfortably and discreetly in the front pocket of thin dress pants, and it won't bother anyone if you take it out.

Rob, your Morrow is a beauty. Looks much more substantial than the little Case :D

Please explain the Earl Grey tea!

Basically, I took a teabag, boiled a half cup of water or so, and let it steep. Then I used the bag to brush over the scales, letting it soak in, and just repeated the process several times rewarming the tea along the way.

The results are to my liking, even though the pile side still didn't darken as much, which I just attribute to different densities in the bone, hence the reason it was always lighter to begin with.

As you can see there, it's a couple shades brighter, and a bit translucent towards the bolsters, but it gives it character :p
