I continue to be a critter free zone.......... Headed down to South Carolina last week to go bunny hunting over a pack of beagles owned by a friend of my good friend and mentor Wallace Fennell......... On my arrival Wallace let me know that the bunnies were all sitting on floating logs in three feet of water........ I guess the term low country does imply an occasional dampness....LOL...... A backup plan to hunt quail had to be scrubbed as the quail were wearing little wet suits and scuba in order to peck about....... Soooo my previous mobile deer free zone has to be updated and expanded to a critter free zone.......

Had a great time with Wallace, as usual, and we did shoot three rounds of sporting clays, one at a new and quite challenging course near Camden........

Spent some time running Wallace's trap line...... Trying to reduce the coyote population before the does drop their fawns....... Of course, with me in close proximity, no critter was dumb enough to even get close...... LOL......

A good time with good friends but, damn I do want to kill something.......

A good time with good friends are some of the best memories I have.
I miss those days of running a three day trap line. cant do that out here any more.

No pics!??

You mean there wasn't any cane cutters wading through the water you could hunt?;)

Too bad though.

I really miss hunting. I haven't been hunting or shot either of my long guns in a few years.:(

Ethan, have you ever tried trapping coyotes on your property? Snares are easy to set in a fenceline and pretty effective, too.

Too bad ya couldn't even get a 'yote or 10. Growing up in the canyons around the Canadian river in west Texas, you could hear them yelping any given night. Never thought I'd see them in NC but they've made their way here. Haven't seen one in person yet but lots on trail cams nearby.

E - come on up!
we have plenty of cottontail and song dogs around here.
plus, I could use the rain if that's a side effect of a visit from you. ;)

They're thick in VA too. The eastern ones are a lot bigger than the western ones. A few pics.

Hate it went so shitty, E.

Glad your back, see ya Thursday.

There's got to be some varmints on your land that need a killin. I hunt TVA land off of 72 by Vonore and there's lots of coyotes in there.

Great link! Anyone who hasn't seen it should have a look. Nice winter coats on them. Hope ya saved them.

Thanks. We skinned one out one time and it smelled terrible and was really hard to skin. I sometimes keep the tails though. Mainly just happy to have one less around when we kill one, they kill our sheep like crazy and are a serious threat to any house pets around.

Ahh I see. I had a couple given to me as a young'n by my fathers Native American friend. They did have a funky smell but looked great on my wall especially as I got into my teen years and moved to the city. Had a cool story to tell my friends as well. Keep up the good work up there!

Yeah they do look pretty cool. We got the one we skinned out tanned and another one stuffed, and my grandpa got one of the black ones we killed skinned and tanned. All of the snares are covered in snow right now but when it melts we're setting a few more.

Sorry about your luck E! nothing a good brew or two can't make better ;)

Just think, spring is around the corner!

We have an abundance of coyotes in NE Tennessee.

Should be a few on Becker Mountain . . .

1. Go fishing.
2. Load said fish into sport clay launcher.
3. Launch and shoot fish.
4. Have dogs go get fish.

Problem solved.

Too much interstate driving E. Get on the two lanes and you'll get a lot more shots.

Hey Trade.....

A perfect solution!!!!........ I just need one of those window whatsits and I'll be set...... LMAO.....

Bummer about the wabbits and deer. Never shot a rabbit myself but ate them before and they taste pretty good. Never shot a brush wolf/coyote either but if I see one it's dead. My stepbrothers shoot them all the time. Coyotes and wolfs are a problem for sure. I was at my Moms farm a month ago it was dark and she told me to let one of her cats in and here a bunch of wolfs howling and growling their brains out in the field about 200 yards away. Cat came in right away. Shes afraid for her pets. My uncle who previously owned the house had his lab killed by wolves years back. I hear them 70% of the time I'm out there. She saw one crossing the yard in daylight the other day. When I was deer hunting one of the last days I went this year it was 15 minutes til dark heard two of them howling behind me in the old snowmobile shelter I was sitting in. It was like a 2 mile walk back to the 4 wheeler for me and when was about half way there they started howling behind me when walking back in pitch black with a small flash light. Kinda spooky espeically with the lack of light but I know they woudln't do nothing. Every set of deer tracks I saw had wolfs following them. There was also just a big congragation of them that got together in a pit by the house. Was really weird to see cause there was 7-10 different sets of trasks coming from different directions and it didn't look like they were eating on anything so don't know why they would all get together like that. My stepdad and mom feed the deer daily out there so there is even more so than usual than used to be . Everybodies appling for wolf tags this year.

No deer meat but got around 35 ruffed grouse this year.

My aunts rabbit cages she had also got ripped out and ate by a bear. She lives 50 yards away from my mom.

Great pics of all the coyotes.

Hope your hunting luck changes for you E.
