The CURSE of the One Hand Trekker

Hey Lavan- You sick or something? A whole 24 hours have passed without you coming up with a new mod! :)

Crap. This post makes me want one even more. Just bought the old soldier alox, shouldn't buy another knife for a while, but I probably will...

Damn my lack of self restraint.

My OHT lives in my daypack. Sure I have lighter knives with better steel or more solid locking, but the OHT just seems to be the right knife for me when I wander the woods for a day or two.

Scott, while you are waiting, how about some SAK Erotica :)
Some might call it ugly, I think the OHT has a certain functional beauty, sort of like a Hummer. Sort of big and bulky and all buisness. :p

You can always buy a set of red ones from Swiss-Knife Shop.
I kind of line the looks of the black scales, myself. Now, if I could get ahold of a set of the fluoresent yellow ones like they use on the Vic Rescue Tool, I would pay for that! I'm all about high visibility on a woods knive (I've got a nice fluoresent orange lanyard on my black OHT for just that reason).

The serrations I actually do like. But, a PE version would be great.
They do make a OHT with a plain edge blade now, and I've been meaning to pick one of those up. ;)

I have the OHT and it's really nice and versatile.
My one big wish would be to replace the philips screwdriver with a corkscrew, effectively creating a one hand Rucksack model for the new Millennium.
And indeed, while the blade is acceptable I would now buy it with a plain blade.

Check out the OH Fireman. It's close to being a Trekker with a corkscrew and a serrated belt cutter. I have the non-OH version, and I love it. I use the fully serrated edge for rope and that sort of thing and save the plain edge for fine work.

Now a OH Nomad would just awesome-sauce:D

I have a plain trekker, a non oh model and I like it alot. It is becoming one of my favorite outdoors folders.

Interesting! Thanks for the tip!
I must say a belt cutter doesn't really interest me, but as I now leave my good ol' Rucksack in the car, the OH Fireman with its belt cutter actually just might come in handy as an upgrade. Must investigate.

Out of all of my folders, which have dwindled significantly, the OHT is the most useful. Sebenzas, Ritter Grip, Military, some slipjoints, a few other SAKs. That OHT is just a great knife.

Especially when you know a knifemaker who will grind the serrations off for you ;).

By the way, I also have this Fox knife, it's the "survival camp tool" from their FKMD knife series:

It has roughly comparable functionality as my OHT. In the carry bag you also get a screwdriver with bits. The knife itself is in my opinion pretty cool, but also quite thick - it won't carry elegantly in a pocket. All 3 tools are lockable, and have and extra LAWKS lock. So, next to the blade and saw there is that special multitool that contains a flat screwdriver, bottle and can opener, wire cutter and wire isolation cutter, and you can use the holes in the middle on 6-sided bolts. At the other side of the knife there is a glass breaker point.
It's all pretty nice, high quality and usable, but the OTH is better suited for EDC, and the Fox lacks the tweezer and toothpick!

I currently have a German Army Knife which is the same knife with diffrent scales and no tweezers or toothpick and I love it but since I hate serrations on woodsbumming knives I just ordered a OHT NS from amazon.com they were running a special buy 50bux worth of victorinox and you got 10bux off your order so I tossed in a fieldmaster. I think I may see if I can put some orange scales on it. I almost lost the GAK in some tall grass the only way I found it was because of the orange lanyard I had on it.
