The Dairy-Maids of Porter Brook (Part 2)

Thanks for the compliment my friend :)

Good work Jack. Good work. An excellent study [both parts]. Many thanks for posting. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. AD.

Jack sorry for my late response but I solely wanted to dedicate the time to read your ENTIRE thread:thumbup:

Jack, these threads are AMAZING and I know there is ton's of study and work that go into these epic threads, so THANK YOU for this!!! I LOVE history and hang on every word:thumbup:

I was taken aback by the Bomber crews sacrifice and the memorial which was erected in their honor. On a lighter side I loved the part of the "George and Dragon" and for some reason I tied the Dragon reference to George's wife Margaret:o:) unfair of me as I'm sure she was a lovely woman:)

Thank you Jack!!! Truly amazing contributions you make here and we are very fortunate for all you do;)

I look forward to Part III:thumbup:

ADEE and Paul, many thanks for the kind words :)

Paul, here's a short BBC report from earlier this year showing the annual wreath-laying ceremony - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-26312595 - When I was a kid, it was just a bare bit of hillside.

On a lighter side I loved the part of the "George and Dragon" and for some reason I tied the Dragon reference to George's wife Margaret:o:) unfair of me as I'm sure she was a lovely woman:)

Actually she was quite dreadful Paul! There are probably dragons complaining at the sheer injustice of ever being compared to her! :D

Long-suffering George was quiet and slow-moving, but I once saw him give a badly-behaved drunk an old-fashioned coat-tail exit. He was a big rough-looking feller, but George just came from behind the bar, propped the door open, took the man by the back of the collar and the back of his pants, and swung him bodily out into the street like emptying a garbage can! Then he just closed the door and walked back behind the bar as if nothing had happened! :D

Finally got to read through Part 2!
What fun!! On to Part 3!!

Jack, I'm behind in my reading and so just enjoyed this installment. Wonderful and detailed history as usual, and first class photos as well.

Thanks so much, and looking forward to Part 3 next.

Andrew
