I just got my D'allara in the mail yesterday and it's Great!!! I can't wait to really use it. I used it for my dinner last night, but I can't wait to try it on a camping trip sometime.

The Handle:

The handle is excellent. The D'allara is a bit handle heavy, but that does lead to more blade control. The full steel spine and dual skeletonized liners make the knife tough as nails and look nice too. The clip is great, this is my first wire clip knife from spyderco and it's excellent. It makes the knife not stand out so much when clipped to your pocket.

The Blade:

The blade is great. The edge is hollow ground (I think, or flat saber ground ). The blade opens silky smooth and locks up great. The ball lock is well designed and seems impossible to disengage accidentally. I really like the ball lock, it seems more serviceable for future cleaning or spring changing than the axis and arc locks from BM and SOG.

The D'allara is an all around great knife with an excellent form fitting handle.
Let me know what you guys think about it, J.

I think its great too. I also think now is the time to pick one up if you haven't yet! I also think we will get tons of threads asking "why" when it is finally discontinued. For some reason, the D'Allara just doesn't get the props it deserves from the rest of the knife world.

The D'Allara is my favorite production folding knife. I have purchased quite a few knives from Benchmade, Kershaw and others but they just do not have the ergonomic handles that this knife has. Really a fine, strong, smooth knife with a great handle.

Yup...my favorite and most used knife, and as far as I am concerned, the most useful and practical all round folder Spyderco has released to date.

A have a few more coming...laying in a good supply to carry me through.

I don't want to hijack your thread but can anyone comment on how it rides in pocket? I saw a video of the D' Allara on youtube, and the knife looks HUGE. (a real pocketful) Thanks

It rides great in pocket, but takes up most of the pocket. I like all the ball lock knives Spyderco has produced. I wish they would do some Dodo sprint runs.

Does anybody know what the pounds per inch are for the D'allara? I understand that benchmade and SOG are a miraculous 1000 pounds before closing, but what about the spyderco ball lock?

It is a great knife! I have a combo-edge in my EDC rotation and another combo-edge plus a plain-edge put back in my collection. :D

The only way this lock would ever fail before an Axis or Arc lock is if the ball bearing was forced out of its track...the diameter of the ball bearing exceeds the shaft diameter on those locks by more than a factor of 2 and with a heck of alot of steel above it to rip through otherwise...whatever the pounds-of-pressure-per-inch necessary to fail it, I'd bet it'd take more than both of them combined! ;)

The D'allara is one of my favorite Spyderco designs. Having said that, I don't own one yet.

I guess I better hurry and get one before they are all gone. My Dodo with ball lock is great though.

yeah the D'allara flew under the radar for some reason....i never cared much for its "looks" initially but after holding one i could fully appreciate it's supreme ergos  that 3-D textured FRN handle feels great in my hand

The D'Allara fell into the "heavy duty" range. Over 100 inch/lbs per inch of blade.

Thanks for the quick response Sal. Nothing compares to your customer service and quality, but I just wanted to know for "bragging rights" with my new D'allara :D.

Sal...for the love of all that is good and right in this world...please...oh please...reconsider blotting this beautiful knife out of existence forever.

I'll say it again...beautiful, beautiful knife.

Absolutely...

I have one & love every inch of it.I buy & sell a lot of knives, but this one will never be sold.

The D'allara is a great knife that will go down in Spyderco history as one of the greats. I really like the design and the history that the D'allara has. It is a piece of American history with a name that will live forever. I will look forward to the Sprint Runs (hint hint Sal......Please, some G-10 would be cool:D). Those will be for collective purposes and the model that I have will be my beater knife. This one won't be traded or sold off, that's for certain.

To add emphasis to the above comments, let me detail the impact of this one model, the D'Allara, on the knife buying habits of at least one other knife nut (that would be me :D)...

I ordered my first Spyderco, a combo-edged D'Allara, on March 13th of this year after concentrating for quite awhile almost exclusively on another manufacturer's knives. After encountering a YouTube video of someone excercising a D'Allara, I had to have one. After it arrived, I was so impressed that I took a closer look at the whole Spyderco line (and continue to do so).

Since then I've acquired 2 additional D'Allaras (another CE plus a PE), a Kiwi in red bone, 2 Delica 4 CEs in ZDP-189, 1 Endura 4 CE in ZDP-189, and a Military in S90V/CF. That's seven additional Spyderco sales in a little over a month catalyzed by that one D'Allara.

Just something to think about...;)
