I have never owned a CRK, but the more I read through this specific forum...I find myself getting this "euphoric" feeling at the thought of buying one. I see the leap happening very soon, I just need to educate myself a bit more.

My first Sebenza was a user. I’d recommend buying used right away. They hold their value well and it’ll give you a feel for which model you’ll want next.

I'm not sure about used. Looking at the knives in the Knife Exchange compared to Knife Center, I could get a new one for what is being asked.

I'm fairly certain I want to get a Large Sebenza with wood inlays, but I don't want to rush into it for whatever reason. Maybe a birthday gift to myself in September.

Tempering your enthusiasm seems like a wise approach. I might suggest that you start by researching which of the different blade shapes might best suit your wants, and then go from there. There is a wealth of info here that can help with your decision making. It shouldn't take long to get a feel for who gives good advice and who is full of bull.

You are right - get out of here!
OTOH the Sebenza can put an end to the quest for the perfect knife.

Go to a store and check them out in person if possible. I went with a plain Jane large for my first CRK and don’t regret it.

My local store had a few options, but holding the large Sebenza was the perfect fit.

Just do it. The resale is pretty good, and the plains and the micarta inlays can be reconditioned to like new for very little. You will lose almost nothing if you buy right. Just pick what you want and wait around the for sale forum. You'll get a good deal eventually.

Hooah!

Agreed. Plain or Micarta iays are probably better knives for a first Sebbie.

Wood inlays are very nice but may not be the best choice for a knife you plan on putting to work.

Good points guys, I really do appreciate the advice. If I can get a good used plain for the right price, I'll get it and send it to the spa. If not, I think a new one will probably be my route. I really do like the wood inlay though, I wouldn't use it if I got one.

Jason_W Jason_W , wish I’d known, I would have sent you one to try out.
Unless you can get good quality photos of a used one, you’d be better off buying a wood inlay new. CRK will not recondition a wood inlay slab, unless you want to pay for new inlays. They can work magic on CCG’s, unique’s on a case by case basis. They will reblast the micarta inlays and naturally the plains. I understand wanting such a gorgeous CRK as an wood inlay to have for a collection piece. Might even have one myself ;)
However, in order to appreciate a CRK in its entirety, you need a user. If you buy just the one, you’re doing the knife an injustice.
Anyway, that’s what I think.

Thanks I really appreciate your input. I feel like I'm heading down the rabbit hole LOL, now I am thinking I need one for show and one for go.

I contemplated this heavily recently. I love the wood inlaid Sebenzas myself, but I know I'd be hesitant to use it. Instead I bought a Wilson Combat Star-Benza. A little more flash than a plain, but something I know I won't have a problem putting a few scratches on.

I took the plunge and bought the Umnumzaan first. Beautiful folder. Tight tolerances, Even cutting bevels, took a while to learn the operation of the folder though. Then I had a chance to get a 21 Large plain jane sabenza. This was the one for me. Been edcing the 21 Large ever since. For me CRK are value fr money as I use them practically every day. I do have other more expensive folders like hinderers but CRK are more appealing and joy to use. They come with tools, grease, cleaning cloth which makes it a complete package. The crk leather sheath is also a good addition.
