The dangers (to the knife) of pocket carry

So I guess this means that they have a sheath in stock that fits?............

I did learn KSF has 2 sizes, the regular and the hunter that is a little bigger. I went with the Pocona which is the new slimmer cut of the regular. The good people at KSF said the activator would work.

I'll be sure and give a review here when it comes in

i put my knife in one pocket and everything else in the other. I don't realy care if it gets scratched(mine isn't nice looking), but it allows me to get to it faster.

You already stated you're using a fixed blade, but on the other than that, I think it's really easy to make a protective cover for a folder buy buying a pair of leather gloves and using one of the fingers for a pouch. You can usually find them in sizes big enough to fit any knife.

I've been doing this with a few of my folders with opened backs and sides. I hate it when keys and coins get in there and mess the blade up, so I wanted something to protect it. I had a little carrying pouch Benchmade sent me, but it was pretty thin, and so that's when I thought about leather gloves. I'd take a pic if I had a decent camera.

Got my KSF Sheath in today and as everyone said great service from Derrick over at Knives Ship Free.
Opening the package I was very impressed with the construction and details. Finishing, stitching and construction was top notch.

Just on the way back from the mailbox I slipped it in my pocket and it fit well. What I wasn't expecting is how tight it was around my little activator. Took a real push to get it in there. I'm hoping overnight it stretched out a bit.

The other pocket was just too tight for me to get a 1AA light in unless I'm just a wimp so i stuck my Zebra pen in there.

Pocketed the whole think and took off to the mall. Loved how it keep the knife upright in my pocket and I really think it disappeared in there it was so comfortable

Overall a great purchase, thanks everyone here for the tips and anyone has used that small side would like to see what you were able to stuff in there.

Sounds like a good score! It'll loosen and form around your knife, like a baseball mitt when we were kids.

I've posted these before but they seem appropriate to this thread. This works really well for me.

When you go for a dump. you pull ya pants up to fast ,it could fly out of the pocket and land in the loo. Not nice.:D

I make my own pocket sheaths quite similar to the one ones sold by KSF, but with the leather rough side out. This give the sheath better 'grip' inside the pocket, and lets the knife slide out a little easier. I make the 'forward side' (the one facing away from my leg) the same size as my pocket, with rows of ventilation holes so carrying it doesn't get quite so warm in hot and humid weather. The knife (I prefer a BM710) is large, but it sits vertically almost along the side seam of my pants so I almost forget it's there, but it's completely buried down in the pocket. I often carry other things in that same pocket, but they never come in contact with the knife.
P.S. I've made several of these to fit different knives and different pants pockets. For the $2 worth of leather and the hour's time to make it, it worked out well! They aren't very 'pretty.' They are very effective.

Sep, do you ever notice the pouch slipping around, tipping the knives a bit sideways in the pocket. I specifically made mine to fit from edge to edge in the pocket of the pants I want to use them with. My main reason for using it wasn't so much to protect the knife from scratches as to keep it vertical and along the back edge of the pocket. I really prefer to use the clip, but in this country they frown upon knives with a blade larger than 5.5cm. so I had no choice but to use the sheath to keep it invisible.

They probably didn't design it as a pocket holster, but the size fits my front trouser pockets perfectly. No tipping sideways whatsoever. The knife is secure even without the clip, I just didn't feel like removing the clip.

I'm always worried about that. So I'm always extra careful. Haven't had to fish anything out of a toilet yet.

Anyway, I keep my blade in my front right pocket, but also keep my Blackberry in there. But most of the time, I'm more worried about not scratching my phone than the knife. I find the knife much more durable than the phone. Besides, if you're going to EDC a blade, it won't quite be a safe queen any more right?

I too keep my phone in the same pocket as my EDC. The iPhone has its own rubber cover and protective film over the screen.

But I'm beginning to get concerned over space... I also want to keep my yo-yo, my frog, and my collection of bottle caps in that pocket, and things are getting a bit cramped...

This is what I use for EDC:
http://cgi.ebay.com/WISE-Nylon-Holster-Utility-Knives-NEW-Two-Pockets-/380256211330#ht_1308wt_912

It's originally for belt carry, so the top portion is a belt loop. I use the loop as a makeshift compartment to store my other EDC stuff. The entire shebang fits nicely in my front right trousers pocket.

Sorry for the rotten iphone pics, I don't have my camera with me.

That's pretty cool.

I have a bunch of things I have to carry around for work, but not so many that I can carry a toolbox. That looks like a great concept to work with.

I have a ring of keys, a blade that can't look like a blade, a pen, a USB drive, a little fenix flashlight, my car, truck, and motorcycle keys. And a spork for eating whatever jar I picked out of our long term food storage. Sometimes it's pork stew, sometimes it's vegetable soup.

If it could hold my cell phone and mp3 player, that would be even better.

Thanks Gary that makes me feel better. How long did it take you to get the holster stretched out enough to hold those two. And to get them started did you just kind of jam them in there at first?

Thanks

Bob

Here's an scan of a pocket sheath (left side carry) I've been using for the past two years. It's been through some pretty rough weather, stuck down in my pocket every day through torrential rains, long hot humid summers, and even an unexpected swim, but it's holding up well. The side that faces my outer pants is rough-out leather so the sheath doesn't slid around when I draw my knife. It ain't pretty but it works like a charm!!
