Oh that's hilarious - somewhere there's an old table carving set missing a handle. Dear god what a hideous nightmare of a "blade" -- also looks like it was just cast and buffed.
That auction made me smile the first time I saw it. But, at least one of the high bidders was a deep pocketed Dealer who has bought up many rare Buck custom's, LE's, and SO knives off ebay. I'm no expert on the old on-line Buck knives like many of you here....so if that dealer would have been the one who got this one I would have had a much bigger smile.
That said, a few years ago I saw the most ugly Buck 124 knock off I had ever seen on ebay. One of our folks here bought it and posted better photo's of the knife when he had it. It was a knife blade made by Buck for Franklin Mint with a model number all it's own the 902. A few months later I saw another one up for sale and well, all I can say is I'm happy to have the rather unique knife in my accumulation....I still think the hilt looks like an old door knocker! Take a look at it below. I guess you win some and you loose some, become better educated before you toss your hard earned $$$$ at stuff.
Send that to Leroy or Joe to be re-handled and you then have a very desirable Buck collectible..The blade profile is larger/longer than a 124 if I remember right and only a few blades were made. It's a rare Buck for sure!
