Not sure if all of you remember it but we had a debris shelter contest here and some folks did a really nice job. I'm writing an article on debris shelters and have a few photos from the ones we have done but need some high-res photos of different shelters. There was one in particular that had snow covering it. If yall still have these photos and can size them about 1800 pixels wide at the widest point in 72 DPI then I would really appreciate it. Better yet, if you could post some of your photos up to this thread and let me pick the ones I want to use that would save using a lot of bandwidth emailing them all. That is if you still have them. Of course we will make sure you get something in return for their use. Thanks on advance!

Will need full names to go with these images for caption purposes.

Adam looks like he's watering his giant Chia Pet!:D That was a really great contest, Adam and Ben both made some really great shelters!

If you did a debis shelter like that down here you would die of chigger bites.

True, but you wouldn't freeze to death. Main reason for debris shelters are to keep you from getting cold and wet since they insulate so damn well. I would NEVER sleep in one of these in the jungle. You would be eaten alive by ants and other shit.

thanks... i was wondering about that, but i didn't want to seem like a wuss. seems like there would be spiders, scorpions, etc. all over you. doesn't sound like a good night to me.

If it's warm enough for insects, you don't need a debris shelter.

Even in debris huts here we get brown scorpions, spiders, etc. depending on the time of year but nothing to worry about. Trust me though, all it takes is a few Isulas or Ichichemi (not sure on the spelling) carnivorous stinging ants to get in your shorts and you are done trying to sleep for the night!

That's true to a point but even in October around here we still have some insects on the ground and the nights are cold enough to need a debris shelter if you have no fire.

When it comes to freezing to death or worrying about a damn bug, the choice is obvious.

Got a scorpion out of my boot the other day. He bit me and he died!

You remember when Suvivorman camped in the Altamaha River swamps? He was terrrified of alligators and redbugs. He camped in winter, when neither the bugs nor the gators are as bad. In the summer, you need to get up off the ground, if possible. A tent with a sewn in floor is not too bad. I'm guessing that those beds ya'll made in the Amazon would work.
