Personally for a folder I'm going to use and use it on a daily basis and use it hard as well >>it doesn't have to look like a work of art to me to qualify to be a quality piece of cutlery. I think the simple, original G-10 handle whether it be all blue like the PE version I'm presently using or the black G-10 handle you could also get when they first came out in 2003 doesn't matter because G-10 makes an ideal handle/scale for the Dodo model. Now I will admit that the Carbon Fiber unit is truly an elegant looking piece and a collector's dream for the showcase.. But this is one folder that they had right the first time when they made them available in all blue or all black handles. They also got it right when they offered it up in PE & SE both not to mention the great dependable operation of the ball bearing lock which has long been one of my personal favorites.
No this thread is all about using and EDCing the Dodo model and the desire for the resurrection of the original Spyderedged version>> and not necessarily to chat about the collectible aspects of the Dodo model. I wish everyone could test drive one of these great Dodo folders for an everyday EDC folder. Because for years I underestimated it's overall ability but I discovered that "Using Is Believing".
Also it's not as difficult to sharpen as most of the other Spyderco Reverse S blades are. This Dodo model is also out of what I've affectionately referred to as the GOLDEN ERA OF SPYDERS ( 1998-2003). The old School Spyderco folders made in that era truly were special and they just don't ever lose their popularity for whatever reason.
Hey guys, long time lurker/first time commenter here. I have longed for a dodo ever since I discovered them in a cutlerylover video many years ago. I recently found one in like new condition for <$200 at a gun shop, and had to pick it up. This knife definitely lives up to the hype. I always have struggled to find "small" knives that fit my large mitts well, and this is one of the rare gems that fits like it was made for me. It's beyond comfortable to use, and super sexy to look at. This knife, to me, is the epitome of a "discontinued gem" that the Spyderco fanboys love to collect. It, and my Spyderco Viele, are the pride and joy of my knife collection.
Now, if I could just get a hold of all the other Dodo colors and flavors, and a Viele in VG-10, I'd be done collecting Spydercos (he lied to himself).
