The "do's" and "don'ts" of the CRK brand

They DO end up in my collection...and I DON'T have to tell my girlfriend about it.

One thing I know CRK does, is they just plain care about their customers. In every way from the time you open that box. Tell me of another company that gives you a lanyard, cloth, takedown tools, lube and loctite (when applicable)? The CRK community here also encourages debate and discussion which is more than can be said for some others.

My favorite part about that list you have is #13. They don't void your warranty if you take apart your own knife.
Seriously, some other companies will not even try to warranty your knife if you're taken it apart to clean it.

i like the fact they encourage you to take apart your knife and familiarize yourself with it. if you make something well enough there should be no problem when reassembled properly. and if you fail to get it working right, send it to them and they will do so for you. one thing not in their lineup that i would love to see is something similar to the hinderer takedown tool, but was less bulky and WAY less expensive (that is another topic, a tool a 1/4 of the price of the knife?really?). i was thinking something that could be attacked to the knife like a lanyard for when you go camping or outdoors. so that way if you need to make and adjustment or strip it down your not digging around for a allen wrench to do so, its attached to the knife.

Definitely agree with this point.

:D
Also my wife!!!

As I posted elsewhere, Wife stole my first CRK - a nice small 21 UG. So I bought a Sankewood inlay small 21 and have another UG on order. She has a nice little knife collection and decided that my first CRK belonged there instead of in mine as it had her birthstone as a cabochon. :D

^^^ That's funny! You have to try and keep your wife from commandeering your knives. Good problem somewhat... Haha!

They don't "give" those things. They're included in the purchase price of the item. Companies don't stay in business by giving things away. Nothing against CRK at all. It's good they include items with the knife as part of a kit, if you will, but they certainly are not free.

Yea, unlike Microtech that charges over $100 for their take down kit, then tells you the warranty is voided if you open the knife. Which, will most likely need to be serviced, as every 8 out of 10 have some issue. What's included in their price, a week at an island resort. The money certainly doesn't go into the knife.

Tell me about it. I sent a well used Mini-Socom in for service that developed some blade play and a tip that was rounded from years of use. After they had it for a month and a half, they sent it back with a roughly sharpened edge, and they never adjusted the pivot to get rid of the blade wobble.

Why does Microtech have to use those damn proprietary fasteners? It's infuriating!!

The Hinderer take down tool is expensive, but it is not needed. I think they are cool though. Usually if you are buying an expensive item, I like to have the right tools to do the work as well. Which is really a one time expense as long as you don't lose the tools/item. :) Plus you can have other tools that do the work for cheaper if you like too. But Hinderer is offering a tool that you can take along with you on your key chain/pocket. Strider dos the same thing, but discourages taking apart the knife.

But yes CRK does do it right IMO. Giving you the tools to properly maintain and service your knives  That's is a aspect that is tough to beat! If CRK offered a pocket/key chain tool, plenty of people would buy it too.

Bought in quantity, the hex wrench must be almost free. Especially compared to a Hinderer tool. Yah, if CRK made a keychain titanium tool, they would sell. Of couse, they would not be inexpensive.

As always Cody your threads are great!! Most are very informative, some are controversial, and some are amusing!! But there always interesting!!
Keep it up my friend!! If for no other reason I am running out of knives to take lousy pictures of!! :D
All the best my friend!!
Dave

Well, I'm glad I gave some people a little amusement. Just trying to think outside the box in defining what it is that's cool about CRK.
