The Dr makes me feel better GAW

I don't think I've ever done anything more generous than allowing my newlywed buddy to stay at my place while they looked for a new apartment (his job transferred him). A 600 sq ft single bed place isn't ideal for that arrangement. Some of the longest two weeks of my life...

Last call for alco- oh wait, wrong thread. :D

It looks like this has run its course, but I'll give this a morning bump. I'll close entries and decide a winner tonight.

Thank you again to all of the wonderful contributors in this thread. A bit of warm-hearted kindness that I can come back to again and again. Have a wonderful day, y'all!

This happened a long time ago. 1980 or 1981 but it has always stuck in my mind.

I was in the Military and a friend and I had rented a mobile home off base. The trailer caught fire one night while we were both asleep. Mark made it out fairly unscaved but I was black from head to toe from the soot and I had a bad case of smoke inhalation. I slept in my skivvies and I wound up walking around outside in my underwear while the trailer continued to burn. Mark and I both lost everything we owned except the clothes we were wearing at the time. For me it was only a pair of briefs.

The neighbor lady from cattycorner across the street whom I had never met before came running over with a pair of her husband's jeans for me to put on. That was a nice gesture in itself but what really stuck in my mind is that while I was hospitalized for smoke inhalation that lady and her husband found me in the hospital and brought me several more pairs of jeans, shirts, and socks.

I didn't even know these people and to this day I could not tell you their names.

Growing up, I had a good buddy's house burn down twice (!!!) with a tree falling on the house the second time. I've seen the pain that it can cause, and I've seen the incredible humanity and outpouring of community that can appear, as well.

Congrats, Railsplitter Railsplitter . I'll send you a message shortly to get this little doctor to your door.

WOW! Thank you, Shawn! I'm speechless!

I guess that couple might never stop helping me. 40 years later I'm adding a fine knife to my collection because of their kindness and yours. Thank you so much!
