So here's another installment of The Duct Tape Club. Today I finished the scales on my homemade wannabe esee/rat etc 5" fixed blade, using HDPE (high density polyethylene) AKA ... cutting board! The color might be a little limited, but in the mean time of ordering some g10 or waiting for the cherry I have to dry, its easy to work, very tough and actually very comfortable in the hand. It will scratch like any other plastic, but to be honest if it were black I'd use it for the next few knives. For this one, im using what I've got, which happens to be a huge commercial cutting board. The blade is still only blanked but I'll keep you posted. One question for the experienced, where are the best deals on steel, micarta/g10, leather and kydex? On the steels, what is the most recommended NON powdered blade steel? Thanks!
