Hello my dear friends,

Thanks Good God today i was able to finish a project i was preparing for quite some time - inspired by Master knifemaker Nathan from Carothers knives to whom i thank for inspiration, i tried my limits into heat treatment and grinding geometry and i am very happy that it was a real success :)

The objective was to make a knife that can cut through steel bolts with zero edge damage and that can withstand cutting through a high strength compacted concrete construction block without damage beyond the micro bevel, without severe chipping or cracking and with the knife still being usable.

So here we are with the 'EDC beast' with a blade made out of Wolfram Special high carbon steel, hardened to app 64 HRC, with a full flat grind and a 20 degree second bevel (quite a fine angle and thin edge considering also the only 0.078" thickness of the stock). The handle is made using a very nice piece of hornbeam burl and Toray carbon fiber milled bolsters; the fittings are brass.
It comes with a thick kydex pocket sheath.

Please do excuse the vid exposure/quality but i haven't seen that the focus is too high and it was also a real challenge to macro shot the bevel (never knew how this is done right :)) but it can be clearly seen that after the bolt cutting the edge had absolutely zero damage and that after the concrete block cut it only had minor chipping way below the second bevel line (i was able to get it back to razor sharp in 3 minutes on a work sharp system.

The blade is app 2.4" with an overall of app 6.3".

The price for this EDC beast is only 155 usd.

All the best, God bless,
Bogdan

Love this, if you ever end up taking this design and function philosophy to a 4-6 inch blade, I'd be very interested in making it my new field knife!

Agree with all above comments. This is amazing and sounds like you've put a lot into making this beast a reality. The 4-6" blade will be great as well! The video was impressive...but now everyone will be looking to imitate your video...Beware construction sites, bolts and cinder blocks 🤣...Excellent work Bogdan!

Are you sure that bolt wasn't zinc 😉

God be with you as well,
JT

Thank you very much dear friends, you are so very nice and kind! ;)
K KP513 - please take a look in here my dear friend ;)

jbla198 jbla198 - i will gladly tag you my dear friend once the knife ready :)

Eternal Edge Eternal Edge - you made me laugh my dear friend - hmm...i feel like i might be targeted by construction workers around for damaging the bussiness :D
The bolt is steel my friend; i dont know how is in the US but in here all construction bolts, if they are not stainless or blued, are zinc plated as the one in the vid. To be honest i have never seen a zinc bolt ever :D

All the best brothers, God bless,
Bogdan
