I let my friend use my 20", 55 ounce, Ang Khola to cut down a tree in his backyard. I had already cut down a thick tree for firewood this winter, and my buds were VERY impressed with how well it cut, so naturaly, when he needed to cut down a tree, he wanted to use my khukuri...well they came back after the tree had fell. (I had stayed in the house, talking to another friend). When they walked through the door, they all had a worried look on their faces....Jake pulled me aside into another room, and said "dude.... we were out there chopping, chopping this huge tree, and when we got like 6 inches into it, we heard a loud metalic ping, I looked at the blade and saw this..." Jake showed me a chip in the center of the hardened sweet spot, the chip is about 4 mm long, and like 3 mm deep. I guess he expected me to flip out on him or something but all I said was "Were you chopping a tree with it? You were? Well then, you didnt do anything wrong and you didnt mean to do this, so dont sweat it. I bet you hit some steel buckshot in the tree." He offered to pay for it, but I declined. My question is, How can i get this chip out without killing the zone hardening? And, I heard chips on hardened steel and cause micro cracks or something, and it can effect the surrounding blade. Is this true?-----BTW, we never did find what he hit in the tree...
