the edge chipped...

you lend your tools to others they will often get damaged. same is true of your wife or car.....

Spiraltwista,

Lending tools or a car is one thing, but the other part of that post seems like some creepy hospitality.

John79,

Sorry to read of your dismay. Can't wait to hear how the new khuk works and whether it leaves your sight when it leaves its sheath.

No pics yet??? I'd like to see this ding.

Andy, I think that since Yangdu said, "send it back for a replacement" that pics were never taken.:( I would be willing to wager that it was just a really bad ding/chip from hitting something hard and maybe torquing the edge a bit. It probably was not a fatal blow for the khuk, but if Yangdu says send it back for another one...then why not?;)

I would have liked to have seen what the edge looked like just out of curiosity.

With plain high carbon steel the Hardest temper chips while the softer deforms, thats the fact of steel. all depends on what you want and need., Its not magic 98% of the time.

Yep. These things have a life.

If you use one sooner or later you will hit a rock or a nail or ...

That's not the end of things. A few minutes with a file or a grinder will give you a usable edge again. It will look different. Until next time ...

Ask Yangdu what a 50 year-old khukuri that has worked its life in the hills of Nepal looks like. It's not the same shape it was when if first came out of the forge.

There are some guys who like a hot young girl, for a while. Then she get's a wrinkle or a pimple and its time to trade her in. Then there are others that get a bit attached ...
