Id like to see pictures of y'alls Connecticut pattern axes. Ive been looking for one for a LONG time and have had no luck.. I really want a lighter weight one, like a 3 pounder or something. Ive always found that pattern very cool looking, so post what you have!

The head on this one is right at 3 pounds.

Are Connecticuts generally quicker at felling trees?

If anyone has a Connecticut they're tired of, let me know!

I spent a couple months lusting after one too. There's an eBay seller out of Connecticut that seems to auction one off every month or so. Just do a search for "Collins Legitimus" or "Kelly axe" and one should pop up eventually. Be prepared to pay a little more if you REALLY want one though. I spent around $50 for a Collins Legitimus in good condition. Kelly perfect Jerseys are pricey too since everybody seems to want one.

Thanks! Yeah i know what you mean. They do get pricy, but the vintage axes ive spent more money on have ended up to be the best ones Ive ever owned.

I've got a few, if we get a break in the weather (its been raining all day) this afternoon I'll take a few pics.

with the exception of a Mann knot klipper and a few no names, here's the lot:

It's still raining here pretty good, so I don't think I'll be able to get pics up today and my wife is leaving tomorrow for a week to go to a conference and she's taking her iPhone and computer with here so I'll be 'offline' for a week.
I'll do it when she gets back.

Speaking of Connecticut patterns...
Awhile back, maybe a year and a half ago before the Connecticut's became so popular. There was a Kelly Perfect Connecticut that came up for auction. It was and still is the only one I have ever seen!
I wanted it so bad, but I was a little low on $ at the time so I couldn't bid that much :(
I think I bid up in to the 50's and it went in the 60's.
I've been pi$$ed about that ever since.

Has anyone else ever seen one of those?

I havent, but i hate when when the bidding gets out of control.. really ruins it.

Could one of you guys define a Connecticut pattern for me? What characteristics make it a Connecticut pattern. Maybe some side by side shots to say a Dayton or similar. In some of the pics above the heads look different. I know there is no set pattern from maker to maker so there will be slight differences. I've been on the hunt for a while now. Thanks

I'm not sure there is a definition for any of the patterns. I usually go by the axe pattern chart (you can find it in an axe to grind or by googling it). A CT is a generally wide axe. Wide bit (5" +), wide axe. The poll (if not abused) is sometimes rounded slightly. no lugs or ears as in a jersey. I think as compared to a Dayton or a wide Dayton, the overall width of the axe is bigger on a CT not just the bit.

These are pretty typical looks for a CT:

Mann Quickcut

collins Legitimus

If i'm not mistaken...

True Temper
Kelly axe & tool co
Charleston WVA USA

Don't know anything about it besides it chops well and i got it for $5
