another look at the keen kutter:

Now that's a nice handle.

Hey Cooperhill, is the depth of the eye generaly taller on a "Conn"? Your Collins Legit or Red Warror seem to me what all should look like. Maybe there is a relationship between depth of eye to bit length? I gotta stop looking at these, I have been lusting after one for a while.

Deep eye and a relatively straight line from the heel of the bit to the heel of the poll. That's what I think of when I see a Connie.

Yeah - pretty much this. Lots of similarities with Jersey patterns (minus the lugs) - deep eye, wide cutting area (5 1/4"+ on full sized), and a shorter bit. Sort of why I've been wanting one myself. I find that the shorter bits balance out better with the poll and makes it a wee bit more accurate while the wide cutting area just gives you the ability to take chunks out of soft woods.

I've noticed on my one and only Collins Connecticut that they made the poll slightly rounded. I'm not sure what's up with that.

There's a 4.5 lb Kelly Black Raven Connecticut pattern up on eBay right now. It's almost too perfect. I'll have the popcorn ready to watch the last ten minutes of that bidding war.

Did you see how mangled that $299.99 Black raven on ebay is? What's that guy thinking asking that much?
