The Emerson Journeyman pictorial review. "The best EDC Emerson ever"

I love the design. I agree, very utilitarian and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. Georgeous Emerson and excellent write up.

It rides pretty low. As low as any of my other Emerson knives. I dont like high riding knives, so it must be pretty good for me not to notice.
Awesome pictures. It looks like the pocket clip is placed kind of low on the handle and a good amount will be showing on top of your pocket...hows does it ride in your pocket?

Thanks.

Ok great sounds good, I have been wanting this knife for awhile and after reading your review...i will def be purchasing one soon. Thanks again man for the reply.

This will definitely be my next Emerson knife. As a journeyman Ironworker, it is a must buy... LOL. I'll go with the combo edge for cutting manila line at work.

I love the journeyman just cant find it anywhere except for on the emerson website and I don't wanna pay msrp, but that is my next emerson.

EKI hasn't made any Journeyman knives in quite some time. I spoke them and they said that sometime in 2013 there will be a run of them but it is not technically scheduled. An Emerson dealer put me in contact with another out in California who had one in stock, new in box, and it was shipped to me for under $200. Although few in number, they are out there. Btw, it is an excellent utility knife and I really like it for edc. My Al Mar SERE 2000 now has some stiff competition!

This review prompted my purchase of this one. I'm really partial to it, maybe even as much as my Kreined eleven. I found it to be a step ahead of my other EKI's in out of the box "finish". It was actually smooth and adjusted perfectly. Lockup is early and very solid. Unlocking yields no sound/grit. G10 could saw through pine. Love the blade design. Frankly I wish I had two so I could keep one pristine, although I'm embarrassed to admit this one still is.

The handle design really lends its self to a perfect "wave" deployment in any pant. The knife deploys well in sweatpants to shirt pockets. Notice the back of the blade is flat and lets the "wave" catch on anything.
I've had mine for a few weeks now and it is the best "wave catcher" that I have. My Commander and my cqc7 deploy with the wave, but I have had to practice to get to that point. And, with different types of pants, the wave seems to "act" differently. Also, I only get a good wave deployment around 90% of the time.

However, when it comes to my Journeyman I have had the same experience as mystro -- mine deploys very well in jeans, sweat pants, shirt pocket, back pocket, etc. & I didn't have to practice with it.

Great review mystro. And a great knife!!

I actually find the CQC-10 to "wave" the best since it doesn't have a thumb-disk to deflect the pocket material away from the wave.

I have a Horseman and a CQC 10 that I rotate as my EDC.....but, I now have to have the Journeyman! Great review and pictures.

I have or have had all three (sold the Horseman) and I'm sure you'll love a Journeyman, a bit more knife than the other two, but still very EDC-able.
