The End of Time is coming!

Assuming "The End of Time as we know it" is an event of less magnitude, then say "Armageddon"/"The Reckoning"/"The Apocalypse" or whatever name one chooses to call it, and simply constitutes a general chaotic state of things from which no immediate order can be reinstated, where no societal infrastructure is in place (a la Mad Max, perhaps), and you are essentially up Sh!t's Creek, and you may only take what you currently possess/have on order ;) then I would take...

Clothing :
Many pairs of socks, in different varieties.
Backup clothes, durable (eg. denim)
+ at least 2 belts.
1 Pair running shoes
1 Pair Doc Marten Boots ( I don't know how to improvise good shoes in the wild...)
Winter Jacket ( I live in Canada )
Windbreaker
Winter gloves + 1 pair of kevlar reinforced motorcycle gloves
1 toque (damn Webster's, its not just a round hat for women!)
1 ball cap.

MEC Winterhawk Sleeping Bag (-15C temp)
Tarp
Poncho
1 Towel (space permitting)
1 face cloth (hygiene, hygiene)

Gear :

Serratus internal frame pack (most of this should fit in/on this)
MSR Stainless Pot/Pan (not terribly fun to improvise in the wild)
40ft UV resistant rope (not paracord)
100 ft copper coated wire.
Fishing line and a couple hooks.
Firesteel, Brunton Helios (it will run out eventually, but for extreme emergencies, instant 2200 Degree F. heat is useful)
Hiker's Kitchen (lexan cutlery)
1 large bottle of either Frank's/Tabasco/Louisiana Hot Sauce/etc
1 Pair of 10x25 compact binoculars
Hiker's Medical Kit.
1 tube toothpaste.
Sunscreen
DEET (as much as I can carry... black - flies are an incarnation of evil...)
3 LARGE (>1.5L) platypus bags

Knives/Tools :

BK&T BK9
Swamp Rat Howling Rat (with custom OST sheath)
Al Mar SERE 2000
Hatchet (don't REALLY need it with BK9 and takedown saw though)
BM TSEK and BM Mini Grip (both very light)
Leatherman WAVE
Buck Take Down Saw
Folding Slingshot
Sharpening System (or two)
Oil

Lights :

INOVA X5 + backup batteries
Petzl Zoom headlamp (hands free light, very useful)
As many extra batteries as weight allows.

Books :

Wiseman's SAS Survival Guide + Davenport's Wilderness Survival/Living
One of Kaufman's translations.

Forgetting a ton, but just trying to think what I could assemble in < 1 hour within the onset of "The End of Time as we know it...".

Also, I don't possess any firearms, so sling shot will have to do :( Hopefully any sufficiently better armed survivors are of the level headed, friendly, non-looting kind. Or sleeping...

Regards.

Shaun.

Time would still exist, but it would be smeared into incredible slowness. There are complicating factors. As you came closer and closer to the black hole, time would stay the same to you while everything away from the hole would seem to happen more and more quickly. People watching you fall in, if they could see your watch, would see it move more and more slowly as you orbited the hole at near light speed.

One of the complicated factors is called "speghettification." There is a tidal force from all gravitational bodies that pulls nearby things more strongly than far away things. This effect is very pronounced with black holes.

Suppose you fall in feet first. Your feet would be pulled more strongly than your head, and you would be drawn out into a thin line, or "spaghettified." Your feet would then wrap around the hole in a smaller, faster orbit than your head. It would be a bad scene.

You guys are funny :) Well, since it would be the end of time, my Rinaldi Armageddon SKS set would be the appropriate knife for sure.
