The End

We should have the mods ban S ShaiHulud so he's not hanging around this den of temptation. It's for his own good, don't want him to relapse.
I have about 35 knives, a few dawson, the grand majority is helle, one tops a few morakniv, one karesuando, grohmann, ahti, etc and the feeling that I don't need anymore and I'm happy with what I have is rather liberating and I feel at peace with that. It's a good feeling. I sold over 150 and I'm happy that I did, got some good money back 😌

I'm sort of done.

Since I was a kid my ultimate "Grail" was a heavy-duty folding stiletto. Eventually that would include a heavy-duty stiletto switchblade. The Cold Steel Ti-Lite 6 provided me with my first Grail, but my search for my switchblade Grail would result only in disappointment. This would eventually lead me to produce/convert my own.

Now my searching is over. I have no more Grails. I have the knives that I have always dreamed of. There are no other knives that I yearn for. And I am quite content.

Achieving these lifelong dreams changed me so much that about a year ago I started selling some of the switchblades that I had previously made, ones that I considered prize possessions, and I haven't had a moments heartache or regret over those decisions. After I acquired my Grails, all other knives just seemed to diminish in importance and appeal to me.

I've compared it to dating a lot of different women, and then finally meeting the right woman, the one woman who causes you to lose interest in all other women.

The reason I say "I'm sort of done" is because I plan on making a few more for myself. I have ideas for variations in the design. So I will be accumulating a few more knives, but they will only be variations on the knives I already have.

As far as other knives, I don't see myself buying any more. I just don't get a thrill out of buying and acquiring new knives like I used to. I'm also a rather "frugal" person, and I can't justify spending the money to myself. I already have more "user" knives than I could ever need.

I did buy a new fixed-blade recently, but I only bought it to replace a knife that was stolen. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

My Ultimate Grails. Top two are autos, bottom is a manual (wrist-flick open). I am content :) .

Well said, the more you buy, the less each one gets used, so I believe anyway

I was happy with my collection a couple knives ago. Sometimes I buy a knife to have a sharpening project, some are a good deal, some I have to add to my collection because....

Sometimes it's not about being complete but being open to change and new things.

I’ve started to hit the end of my collection, main reason being I still have a couple of single actions and lever guns I need to procure.

These were my primary 3 knives circa 1982. Even then I had a shoebox of beaters. I never needed to buy another knife.

Collecting is either curse or therapy. I’m not sure which.

Still collecting knives is cheaper than a cocaine addiction.

My collection is also mostly complete. I put together the sets I wanted.

You know that feeling when you walk into a well stocked knife store, and you can have anything you want?

That’s the feeling I get when choosing a knife to carry from my collection.

that’s good you feel that way. I’ve sold a couple dozen, and usually end up regretting it eventually. The money made from selling them is almost always used to buy more, so the cycle continues.
My first real passion/hobby in life was automobiles, but I’m not so great at saving money these days.

It’s easy when you know you can save up for a couple weeks (instead of years) and buy your dream knife, or even just that next one you just gotta have.

That is one of the most appealing things about the knife hobby. Of course, there are more choices with knives, more brands, easy access to Knives made all over the entire world, so that’s cool. (Something that would’ve been much more difficult before the invention of the internet.)

I'm lucky in that I never cared for modifying or customizing knives, it's austerity for me, black, dark Grey, flat dark earth and other (military tactical) colors. I don't need a brightly colored knife or anything with anodized hardware. Definitely don't need a lanyard unless I'm using it to lengthen a short handle
Knives are tools/weapons for me so I do as little show and tell with them as possible--- it also helps make them cheaper overall

I dont buy any expensive stuff anymore...most of it is useless anyways, and am sticking to brands like victorinox,opinel,mora...and few others.
Sometimes it's the superfluous aesthetics that drive up a price, like marbled carbon Fibre or limited edition anodized titanium
Or iron wood
Makes a knife cost 200 more than it should
Finishes too will drive it up but some finishes like battle worn add to the HRC.
All depends

I have narrowed it down to 9ne, maybe two final knives. I need to sell some first, as well as wait for some business/financial related things close. Then saving, looking to buy this summer an Arno Bernard iMamba with a cool inlay. I like the design and my name is Bernard. A Cheburkov Russkiy damascus is possibly on the list.

Well, when i see opinel, victorinox and mora performing better in real life than all those spydercos, and other hyped up stuff, thats what drives me to get rid of all useless garbage that i bought over the years.

Though I have sold quite a few knives over the past year or so, I still have a decent size collection, probably around 60 or 70 knives left... but I have to admit that I have been in a slump here recently. The last knife I bought was a Creely Mako in late September.

I just haven't felt that urge to pick up anything new lately. And although that I do still enjoy carrying my knives and using them daily as a tool, I find myself just carrying the same knife every day due to lack of interest..

Although I wouldnt consider this "The End" of my journey by any means, I just haven't been as in love with the hobby here recently.. idk why

I have started acquiring vintage knife that serves these needs. It is neat to carry knives that have been well used but well cared for.

At some point I will get to the selling stage, but I might just procrastinate long enough that I never get there.
