Levine defines an English Jack as a slim, regular or sleeveboard Jack over 4" long. Sometimes found with premium materials, fancy bolsters, and locking blades. English Jack is apparently an American term for a traditional English style jack of this type. These bigger knives have been growing on me lately, and I'd love to see some more of them! Here are three that I have for your ogling pleasure:D ! Please show us yours if you have them!! A Schrade Walden, a Schrade Cut Co, and an Empire Winsted CT!

Well the man said to show'em if we have some. I don't have any vintage English Jacks but I do have these Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Tested. Great looking Jacks waynorth, very classy..

Both very nice sunburst! But the bottom one with the stamped bolster, and two large blades is a stunner!!

While it's under 4", this Queen made Marbles was marketed as an English Jack.

Stag and 1095.

That deluxe English Jack is one of my favorite carries, Sunburst. Great photography BTW.

This is my only English jack currently, but I've been eyeing that File and Wire for quite a while:

Nice knives! Where did you get that Scagel? It is a beauty.

Thanks! I got it from Vintage Knives (vintageknives.com). This is the #8 Northwoods Scagel, in Rodgers bone. Most of them were made with sambar stag scales, but this was one of 25 with Rodgers bone. Probably the only time in my life when I bought a knife with jigged bone handles when I could have had gorgeous sambar stag for the same price. However, for some reason I liked the bone version so that's what I bought. I don't regret it at all.

Charlie, I like the one in the center. Larry

Apparently, it's rare LarryM. Only one I've ever seen, although there must be others. I have 2 standing offers for it!

Nice LBG! Daddy Barlows do seem to fit the definition of English Jack. Sort of a sub-species;) !

Great knives every one. Here are now and then single blade lambsfoot knives made in England but at 3.5 inches maybe not long enough to be 'English Jacks' LOL. I love that Scagel.

All the Jacks you own are English, s-k, at least in spirit!

Ok does this fit the criteria of an English Jack???

Robeson Red Jigged Bone & Smooth Bone Pocket Knife. The 3 3/4" blade is stamped on the ricasso ROBESON DEMONSTRATOR. It is a replica of one of a series of knives that came out after 1911. They were used by salesmen to show store owners the new knifes that Robeson was coming out with. This knife is 5" closed.
