Very dramatic photo Phil! That knife knows how to make an entrance;-)

Thanks Waynorth & Knowtracks, great fun seeing these great looking knives..

I agree and would like to add your name to the list too sunburst.

I think I found one that meets the criteria. Just waiting a day or two now for it to arrive. The agony.

Until then, here is a G Buttler jack knife with a nice horn handle. Seems the combination of sheeps/lambs foot and pen blades is quite traditional.

Thanks SK but were just trying to catch up with your British Beauty's...Promise me one day that you will disclose your source at the Sheffield Knife Museum...

Sunburst

Thanks very much Sunburst. Far from a museum but perhaps one day. The Hawkbill Jack is a little more unusual.

Could you recommend any contemporary Sheffield knife maker? I don't have a true English knife in my collection but are there any decent firms making knives in England anymore?

Appreciate you opinion (or others')

Hi willgoy. I mostly collect older sheffield knives but I do have a few modern ones. The big names like Wostenholm & Rodgers are owned by something called the Egginton group. Still based in Sheffield and to be honest I can't comment on their quality as I do not own one. I have one knive made by Trevor Abblet which I really like. See the single-blade buffalo-handle lambsfoot earlier in this post. I just bought a traditonal style one-blade lockback made by Arthur Wright and Sons. Will show that asap. Search by that name and you get their site. The Ablett knives are available at littlemesters.com. I have no affiliation with either so I hope this doesn't sound like an advert.

I've had a growing curiosity with the knives built by Stan Shaw. I have never handled one but the photos of them I have seen are pretty darn nice.

Unfortunately I do not own one. By all accounts they are top class all the way. The demand for these far exceeds the supply... thus, if you can find one for sale, they command a very pretty penny.

Wow, a lot of great photos in this thread...

It seems to me that over the past year or so, most everyone has
become vastly more adept at knife photography.

I know a guy who has quite a Stan Shaw collection, maybe 20 knives. I'll see if I can get him to post them here. They've been going up in price, and are harder to get, as he slows down. He's in his 80's!!

Queen Cutlery made a run of these big knives back at the start of the century under their QCCC range. I never kept one but they were impressive sized, Ebony,Stag and 2 types of Jigged Bone I think? Pity so many images have been deleted from this interesting thread, perhaps some people can post fresh ones ?

Thanks, Will

Lots of potential in this thread, but it is in sorry shape!!
What say I start it over, hmmmm? Or is there a better one in the archives???
Let me know what you think please!!
