I'm new to the CRK game, having just bought my first, but I'll give it a go...
When I think of CRK and the Sebenza, I think of the reputation for quality, but that doesn't apply only to the Sebenza, it applies to all of their products.
As far as the Sebenza goes, I think of the overall design. While it has changed a little over the years, and there are now more options available, the heart of the knife has stayed close to the original.
If the overall design (shape) was drastically changed, or if the lock or washers were dramatically changed, it would no longer be a Sebenza IMHO.
Personally I can't see any reason to change the Sebenza. It is one of the knives that truly helped build the company. That said, I don't see
any problem with designing new knives. The 25, Mnandi, and Inkosi are easily recognized as CRK products, but I certainly don't think of them as Sebenzas.
That is okay though, because each knife has its own individual characteristics and traits. Not better or worse compared to a Sebenza, just different...
Being new to CRK's, I just went through my first encounter and experienced what I would call the true essence...
I have read for hours, and looked at countless pictures, but I didn't fully appreciate the knives until I took mine out of the box and held it.
THAT is when I felt the essence. You have to feel it and see it in person to truly appreciate it.
