The Estwing Sportsmans axe (aka, E24A)... when was it first made by them?

When did they stop putting the nail notch on the hatchets? I pick up Estwing's for $5-$10 at yard sales and the flea market and about half of what I find have nail notches. Today's find was a 14a for $5.
I would be interested in knowing too. I'd also be interested in spotting a 12" model at any price less than the ransom for King Tut's gold.

An Estwing named "Sweetie"...

Just catching up with my last posting (above) regarding the 12" model. I did finally snag one at an affordable price, and it cleaned up pretty well, I think. I was also able to find a proper leather sheath for it. It certainly looks to be new old stock, but it also looks like it may have been a second. Oh well, it simply works - and it IS leather. I'm still debating whether or not I should treat the sheath with Neatsfoot Oil and let it darken, or leave it light with simply an application of Black Rock Leather Conditioner. There is something I really like about the darkened look.

Weighing in at 1 pound - 3 ounces, total with sheath, this Sportsman's Axe is a sweetheart of a pack tool. Note! My opinion only.

Added note: I really hope nobody objects to keeping this thread alive. It seems to be chock full of timeless information about Estwings. Not to mention that I haven't found any current threads about Estwing. Have a grand day everyone, and be safe.

I was looking for something else and happened across this ad from 1924. must have been a very very early one if estwing was founded in 1923. I know its not a sportsmans axe, but still cool.

Hey FLINT77, do you remember where you saw this ad? Or do you have the whole ad image? I'm searching information on this Half Hatchet.
