Here's my latest creation. Kinda mixed about it myself and I made it. What do you think?

is this even a knife or just cg? it looks interesting enough. i kind of like, can't put a finger on it though. like the "ring" flipper not sure about the usefullness of the blade, maybe the front could do with a little less belly?

You are correct vilePossum, it is cg. Thanks for saying it's interesting. Funny I kinda like it too... And I kinda don't. It could use less belly I suppose. Thanks for your input :)

no problem, dífferent doesn't equal bad in my book. depends on whether it is just supposed to be a show piece or not, but maybe you'd have to take a look at the handle later on

Are you familiar with any of the fantasy knife designers? Here's some from Virgil English and one from Gil Hibben, both successful knife makers/ designers of both regular and fantasy knives. Note that even though the knives are sheer fantasy, they work on all levels as fine cutting instruments, with ergonomic handles, recognizable blades/handles, etc.

There is a saying that you can't do anything in life alone except die. So it's just weird to me that in knife making all anyone ever tells you to do is go it alone. Anyway, my situation in my personal life has me down and it may not be the case, but I feel like I'm just being kicked on top of it all. So for that reason I'm just going to politely bow out and say I wish yall the best. I'm not going to post anything else and waste yalls time. Special thanks for the advice and kind words from Lycosa (what I told ya still goes man) and Matthew. Bye.

Wow, Dude! Did you expect everyone to fall all over themselves about your drawings?

Tell you what, you design a fixed blade that can be made, and I will make it, giving you full credit as the designer.

Very generous offer! Braja, I'd draw up something a little less extreme (you can still add your style to it) and see what David can do!

If you do this, consider all aspects, for example, do you want the handle to be carved wood, bone, stag? Do you want the guard to be wrought iron, Nichol Silver, blued steel? Consider the blade to handle ratio, consider the sweep of the blade into the handle; do you want the blade to have a hamon, or do you want a satin finish? And most important, consider the function of the knife you are designing, do you want it to have a primary hunter application, or a fighter as a bowie would be? Or perhaps a simple utility knife?

Braja69,

I hope you didn't take offense at what I said. You have to understand something. The renderings are very nice. They are fanciful and interesting and fun to look at. But that's all they are right now. I'm sorry about the unfortunate path life has taken you down at the moment. It is a temporary condition. Things will look up sooner or later. Be positive. In the mean time, put the conceptual stuff aside for a while and focus on designs that are practical. Design something more uncomplicated, something that is achievable by YOU. Get some steel and get your hands dirty. You will gain invaluable perspective on the kinds of design features that are desirable and effective in the real world. The guys and gals here design some pretty fantastic knives, but then they build them. If you don't have any interest in making knives and are planning just to sell all your designs to someone else who will make them then design some practical, well thought out, and production-friendly knives.

What a generous offer David.

I was really impressed by your attitude early one- inviting critique and allowing it to wash over you without letting it get to you.
It's understandable that the stressors in your life have led you to this final post, but I find it to be unfortunate and I feel for you.
My best advice for you is to learn the mechanics of a locking folder. This will help to inform future patterns, should you choose to pursue this, which I hope you do.

David Stifle here is your fixed blade. I want you to ask Lycosa what materials he wants and let him make any changes he wishes, because I told him that for the help he has given me, I would give him the first knife that I had made, free of charge. I don't care about the credit or anything, just do that for him and I'll be happy.

That's not the way it works, Braha. You should have asked me some questions before assuming I would do this 100% at my cost. I assumed you would understand this was a joint venture. If I provide the labor and the materials, it is a joint venture between you and me. My intent would be to make the blade according to your design, sell it, and split the proceeds according to whatever we work out.

And yes, I can make a knife from your drawing although much is left to my imagination. Frankly, I think you can give me a more detailed, thought out design. If you want to be a designer, Lycosa should not play in this, you should.

Further, my offer was made in an attempt to get you started in design work, but if you don't care to get the credit, why should I bother?
