The Eucalyptus

Awww, damn! This didn't work out like I hoped. Ok, Rolf, what materials do you want? Let's make this sucka! Maybe a Ti blade? Bronze guard, black paper micarta handle?

Have you been looking at Joan Miro paintings lately? That's what this puts me in mind of.

Obviously, that last design wasn't serious. He's just throwing his hands up and walking away. It was a nice offer Dave. If I were you I wouldn't feel obligated to go through with it considering the flippant and childish attitude of the OP.

Hmmm I think the Eucalyptus knife is interesting, like an alien folder from another world, Lots of detail.

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

keep at it. You can't just walk away and give up that quickly.

Most of the knife makers on here probably put in hundreds of hours of work before ever making anything anyone else would be interested in having(at least I know I did and I still have an incredibly long way to go to to even be close to the level of most of these guys). For me this is a personal artistic expression and it's only fulfilling if what I'm making is all my creation so I would probably not be an ideal potential partner for you. I've got notebooks full of designs that I don't have the time, skill or equipment to make at this point. Lots of custom knife makers are like me and I think people who get into making just about any type of handcrafted items are like that by nature and having someone else design your product takes away some of the enjoyment. Not everyone is like that though and you just need to realize that not every knife maker is going to be a potential partner for you. The guy who has great technical skill but realizes he may need some work on the creative side is probably your ideal partner. And even then you've got to prove that there's actual demand and acceptance for your designs and somebody will buy them when they are produced. You're asking someone to dedicate a lot of their time and invest their money in materials to make a design that has no proven demand. It could also be a nightmare to make because it was designed with no thought into process, materials and equipment required, time or cost of production. The maker is taking all of the risks in this deal which is why people aren't just falling over themselves to work with you.

I wish you luck and hope you stick to it. The ideas are the easy part. Sticking with it long enough and working hard enough at it to bring them to creation is the hard part.

Also, I must have missed the back story about your situation and have only seen it referenced here. Whatever it is I hope things turnaround for you. There are lots of great people on here who are incredibly generous so this is a great place to be.
