That looks GREAT!

I really like the blasted look. My 11s blade is blasted and i want more of my blades blasted now.

Something i dont understand though, with the blade blasted is rust a likely problem? before i had my 11 blasted it would form rust pretty quikly. now i havent been oiling the blade to see if any rust forms. im not seeing any rust yet but the blade is starting to look like it might be starting to form a natural patina. its not very noticable but the blade is getting a little darker in spots if you look real close. and when i rub the blade with a dry cloth i can see a faint bit of white"ish" residue left on the cloth. i think maybe its a matte or clear coat... i have no idea really.....

Ya shoulda media blasted the scales, too. Makes a BIG difference.

Wow duh I was going to take a soldering iron to em in a day or so but Ill have my roomate do em over winter break (he did the knife at work for me) thanks K9

Yeah I'm really happy with how it came out too, I'm not sure about how it will oxidize but I try to keep my bare steel pretty well oiled maybe somebody with a little more experience with this sorta thing can pitch in.

Well it looks great thats for sure. ill probably get my 16 blasted as well after seeing yours. Yea i normally keep them oiled well and use a tuff cloth to clean them when im finished using them, but im curious on how the blasted steel would react. I dont want any negative actions or changes in the looks so ill go back to oiling it. its only been a week or so without any oil.

We need K9 to step back in for a second! Also blast the scales? does this come out looking like it was stippled or sanded?

It makes the color slightly lighter, and matte of course, but the grippiness of the surface is not even in the ballpark compared to the slippery stock plastic.

I crank the air pressure down to half what I use to do the metal.

If you remember or want to dig back, I blasted averageiowaguy's scales before I DuraCoated them orange for his trip to the Amazon.

I'll dig around through my photobucket and see if I have a representative photo.

Is there any paint on top of the blasting or is there a clear coat? everytime i clean the blade with a dry cloth i can see a faint bit of white"ish" residue left on the cloth.

And how is blasted steel with rusting? I have noticed no rusting even without oiling and this also makes me wonder if there is a coating on the blade after it is blasted?

Got one!

Before and after BK-4s. The before has stock Grivory, and in the forground is a set of blasted Grivory.

No. It's just perfectly bare metal.

Your knife was not clearcoated. But I did put a coat of (thick) mineral oil on it before shipping.

Wow, thats awesome, ill go back to oiling her regularly. Thanks for the answers!

And those scales look good like that, And that machax looked awesome before but looks 10 times better now!

^Thanks for all the help K9 and as usual beautiful work, I actually found that pic sifting though your finishing thread I just wasn't sure if you blasted the scales or duracoated them or something

Curious what media you use when you're blasting. Do you parkerize the metal before duracoating? BTW, I really like the Easter Becker!

Hey wambo what color are those scales, and did they come like that or are they duracoated or something? They look really good and ive never seen any that color before that i can remember.

I'm curious, does the media blasting remove the factory machining lines and leave the blade totally smooth?
Nice looking blade Wambo!
