The ever changing face of my BK-16: Now Media Blasted

Hey wambo what color are those scales, and did they come like that or are they duracoated or something? They look really good and ive never seen any that color before that i can remember.

Just the tan scales that came with the knife, the BK-15 16 and 17 come with a set of black Grivory scales and a set of Coyote Tan/Dark Earth scales

I'm curious, does the media blasting remove the factory machining lines and leave the blade totally smooth?
Nice looking blade Wambo!

It does take out the machining marks and I can just barely make out the BK-16 etch still and a faint remnant of the BK/Ka-Bar logo on the other side however my friend said he blasted it, took it to the wire wheel (he was thinking about polishing it up a bit I gave him some creative freedom with it) and didn't like it and blasted it again; so Just blasting it may not take away the laser etching as much. The finish on it isn't really smooth but more satiny I'm really digging it so far.

Curious what media you use when you're blasting. Do you parkerize the metal before duracoating?

Stuff I buy at Tractor Supply. I think it's ground up scrapings from commercial smoke stacks.

No. As far as the DuraCoat is concerned, it likes the matte-ness of the metal, not the Parkerizing, per se.

Don't I wish it were that easy!

No. It "hides" them to some extent, but I've blasted knives as part of the initial phase of polishing the blade, and a few passes with the sandpaper and the grind marks magically reappear. They're still there, it's just the matte finish doesn't allow the light to reflect off of the marks.

How long will the matte finish last?
Will it wear off like a forced patina?

I guess being a Darth Vader fan I like everything black all over. That is probably why I love the Beckers so much. But the 16 blasted like that looks really nice. I also like those blasted grivory handles. I have blasted guns before and thought of doing up some of my handles as well. Since those came out so nice I am going to do it.
