For some reason the title isn't saving with Tapatalk. Anyway, Face openers are SOLD OUT. Still have a few minions left.

I have 25 of each done this time and immediately shipping. I'll add some more pics from this and last run as soon as I'm back at the hacienda.

This is the same 'Face Opener' I previously offered here, same specs and all. 1/4" 6061 aluminum, waterjet cut and hand finished. Along with those are the single fingered 'Minions' I recently put out. (My kids said they look like the yellow guys from 'Despicable Me.' I agree.)

These pics are fresh out of the jet, so still need their corners knocked down, holes chamfered, acid etched, tumbled and brushed, but will have this appearance as soon as that's complete. (I just didn't want to waste any time posting them. By as always gets first 'dibs.')

If used (where allowed by law) as a personal defense device, keep in mind it is a last ditch item. It will be slightly uncomfortable to use in some cases, however the receiving end receives far more 'discomfort.' My little rule of thumb is this; if you have reached the level of threat to your personal safety where using this as a defensive weapon is legally justified, your slight discomfort will be the least of your concerns... And it is slight, every edge is chamfered and the pressure is taken by the palm, not the fingers as in some smaller and more discreet models I offer from time to time. These are by far the most effective IMHO.

Each one will come with a 31mm split ring.

I am offering these at the same prices: $15 for 'The Face Opener' and $12.50 for 'The Minion.' A combo, or one of each, will save you $2.50 at $25 shipped. Multiples discounted accordingly.

This includes shipping anywhere in North America as well as APO/FPO guys and gals, and of course the split rings mentioned above.
To order: Just email me at
e.lucy@gmx.com
Or PM me...
Tell me qty and an email address for the paypal invoice to go to. Once paid, they ship. Most get there in 3-5 business days (some got there last time in 2...) but I usually wait until 10 business days have passed before I panic. I'll take care of any that don't get where they were supposed to go one way or another...
Please use the method above to order, please do not just send money to my PP address. I am an actual business entity now and have to use the invoices to keep my books in order.

No need to post a reply in the thread unless you just feel like doing so. I process directly from my email and don't want to push other guys items down the page unnecessarily.

Those who've emailed me in advance of this bunch, check your inbox, if I missed responding to you let me know. The few 'pre-orders' I had have shipped, should get there soon. I'll keep making these as long as you guys ask for em, but after these I'm gonna have to take a break. Thank you to everyone that ordered previously and thank you all for the positive feedback. I'm still working my way through return feedback for all of you guys.

Cheers Y'all!

About 13 Face and 11 Minions left.
Everyone paid has shipped as of this post...

Thanks again... I'm working on a 'disguise' for the minions, and provided it turns out I will post up some pics this evening...

I had a question about all the steps I actually do on these here in the shop. These don't come close to my definition of hand made, but they do for some others. They arrive far from finished but I personally consider anything that starts as a water jet blank outside the handmade definition. Custom made is OK, custom designed, and all the similar terms I think are fitting, but I always have and probably always will consider 'handmade' to mean being shaped without the aid of jigs, design software, etc. Use of power hammers, grinders, etc still fits, but once a computer is involved it loses it for me...

Anyway, these arrive as very rough blanks water jet cut from a sheet of .250" 6061 aluminum. I then chamfer each hole with my old and trusty Milwaukee drill press and a 60° bit.

I clean up the chamfered holes with the Dremel and a wire bit. (shown in a vice only because I don't have three hands... I free hand this obviously.)

I don't have a picture of it, but I then clamp them up on the mill/drill in a machinist vice set up on angle and mill the 'tooth' in the bottle opener to its respective angle.
They then get an all over buff with the wire wheel on the old bench grinder. (Very old and underpowered bench grinder. But the low power is perfect for the wire wheel on softer metals...)

I will knock the corners down a little here and there by hand after the wheel. They then get dunked for a brief bit in a moderate acid bath before going in the tumbler. After a couple of hours in the ceramic media they are washed off in the sink and are done. Packaged up with a stainless split ring in a small zipper baggie and sent out the door, ready to open your favorite frosty beverage...

Not handmade, but they each get a little love nonetheless. :)

Cheers, thanks for looking.

I have one of each of these and one of your other models and I have to say they work great, they blend in on a key chain or fit in a wallet better than I had thought! Keep them coming and more or the copper/bronze! Lol.

You do great work, even your blems are in good shape!

Thanks again!
Bill K.

Copper or bronze are coming soon. Still trying to maximize the materials usage and such... A sheet of copper, brass or bronze is ridiculously steep...

I've sold a few multiples, and have been asked about price breakdown for 3 of a kind, full house, w/e... At this point I have a few faces left and about a dozen minions. I'll do multiples of 3 or more of the Minion for $10/ea and the Face for $12.50/ea shipped...

Cheers y'all!
And thanks for the compliments Bill. I really appreciate all of you repeat customers. It is always very encouraging. And of course thank you to my first timers as well. Hopefully I can turn a few more of you into repeat customers.

Ok, so I had an idea to work on a Deep Cover 'Minion.' I thought I'd share some mock ups with you guys and get an opinion. Unfortunately I neglected to take a top picture of the compass showing through the grommet before sending this off, but you'll get the idea.

Here is the back side grommet in place. For the top just imagine a 20mm fluid filled compass showing through..

The idea is to have the two grommets interlock slightly. Push out the compass portion like so...

And then take out the top surround grommet like so...

The actual pieces will be bespoke for the minion and probably a matte delrin of some sort. Possibly different colors, etc. I can envision company logos on the back, small watches instead of a compass, etc. It would make the unit extremely deep cover, and I think would avoid much scrutiny anywhere. Please excuse the rough mock-ups. This was one of those 'ah ha!' moments and I didn't want it to escape me. If I pursue this it would have to garner a decent amount of interest, and would be much cleaner and we'll presented as a final product. I could even see it as an add-on to the units that are already in customer hands...

Thanks for any input.

Cheers y'all!

That is SWEET!

Posting to subscribe. As soon as they're available in bronze, I'd be up for a Face. Just a thought: Have you considered putting the tooth on the inside instead of the outside? I always thought bottle openers worked backwards of what they should be.

Think about opening a beer can; you pull the tab toward you right? What if the tooth was on the inside (opposite of the current placement) near the finger holes? Then you could be wearing it in your palm and still use it as an opener.

Just a thought . . .

It actually works best this direction... They really do open a bottle with ease, and on one quick pull. Some openers require two or three pry attempts to open the bottle. Plus, imagine the tooth on the opposite side. It would look like a buck toothed face... Lol. Goofy...

I still have a few of the minions left and a couple Faces. Everything else has shipped. If anyone has any issues whatsoever, please let me know. You guys all know I'll do whatever it takes to make it righteous.

Cheers y'all

Loving my minion. Been in my pocket for over a week!

Any advice on rounding some of the edges a bit? Would like to knock them down to fit my hand a little better. Thanks for a great product!

I use a media tumbler with ceramic media. I have settled on the amount of rounding over these are at after going further with it in the past, and lesser with it as well. There is a point whereupon you round the edges so much that what used to be the flats starts pressing in against your finger with concentrated force because it is rounded too much. A broader flatter edge distributes the force of the blow across as much surface area as possible. And this is where I've landed with them after feedback from customers. Plus, after feedback we discovered after a few months in your pocket with keys and change and such the edges get more and more rounded over. So it kind of helps to have some material there to start with.

That said, some people like more rounding than others. And due to the nature of the machine I use to tumble these things, I can only do 5 at a time and they vary slightly from one to the next as to just how rounded they are.
If you'd like, stick it in an envelope and ship it back to me. Should cost about $1.20. I'll run it in the tumbler for a day or so and send it back to you.

Cheers!

Appreciate the offer! And understood on the flats. I was just gonna hit it with some sandpaper, maybe an old file thats at the end of its life. Just to reshape a couple small areas and round a couple areas. Im totally satisfied with your product, just like to meddle with things too much i guess.

Thanks again!

No worries. I use 6061 because it works fairly easily but takes a decent finish afterwards. If you want to match the randomized finish of the tumbler, you could do what I used to before I had a vibratory tumbler. I made a pvc tube with end caps. Then used aquarium stones (the big ones) and some wd40 as a burnishing soap. Shake it manually for a little bit and you're good to go.

Cheers.
