The Fallkniven DC4 is going back...I need a replacement

I got my Fallkniven F1 in the mail today and wasn't impressed with it at first because it seemed rather small, but now, I love this thing! It feels like a mini tank and I think that it's a great addition to my small, but expanding collection.

The DC4 however, is a different story. There are some serious gaps between the diamond and the ceramic side and there is resin/epoxy/whatever adhesive is used, all over the ceramic side. I'm sending this one back, but I'd like to know what you guys carry on the field. I want to replace the DC4, I'm not looking for a 3 ft Arkansas Stone that weighs 50 lbs. This will be an "emergency" type of stone since I maintain my blades at home.

Speaking of Arkansas...How are those Smith's 4" Arkansas Stones?

Thanks for the help!

I'm not happy with my DC4 either. The quality sucks. I've been happy with the edge I've gotten with a diamond rod sharpener, so I'm keeping that for use away from home. It's not the "perfect" edge, but it will get me by until I get back to the stones.

dmt folding sharpeners (dia-fold, dua-fold or something like that) I carry them everyday. they are fantastic.

It's unfortunate your DC4 was so much a disappointment. I hope they make it right for you. I have one and like it.

In lieu of the DC4, my choice would be a DMT Dia-Fold in C/F (blue/red). I think it's about the most versatile hone out there, if only relying on one. It'll handle a major repair on any steel (coarse), or it will give an excellent working edge when just touching up (fine).

I carry a coarse/fine diafold and it works great. DMT also makes a credit card size deal that is super easy to carry.

Those are excellent too. If I actually had the Coarse, I might take it, in lieu of the Dia-Fold. I have the Fine & EF, though, and they're great.
