The "Farmcata" - Feed the Kami's Fund

bgz101 I'm thinking more in the direction of adding material in the narrow section not taking off stuff. Cause the wood grain is not the best direction to ensure the strength of the wood in that section and don't forget the rivet (which is huge in comparison to the wood in that are) is huge and not much wood left there :)

I agree with Cotherion. Here's an attempt at what this "added material" could look like:

I will order one and make a donation. I have always liked to "pay extra" with the $ going to the Kami Emergency Medical Fund. I really don't miss an extra $10 or $20 and it makes me feel good help others (especially those keeping a cultural tradition alive). It would break my heart if HI went away because I didn't help out when times were tough.

Thank you guys --- I'm so thrilled with the response. Hopefully a few more people will order too!

For what its worth, I like the handle shape I have now. I wish it was 'slightly' bigger, but just having my finger barely wedged in there gives me great control when doing fine cutting work.

You're going to love this knife!

If anyone is a little unsure please feel free to ask me questions about this knife. I'll post more pictures or answer any questions I can.

Let's help the kamis (and get yourself an amazing knife at the same time!)

Let me post 2 pictures about why I like this grip. You can 'choke up' for fine work or choke down for leverage.

Hopefully seeing how my hand fits on this handle will help you see why this grip is so good.

I wish it was a little bigger perhaps, but wedging that finger in that gives you lots of control for finer work.

Thanks to bgz101 for his Farmcata project idea. I have emailed Yangdu to have her put my name on the list for one of the knives. I rarely post but I am a daily reader of the postings. There is always great information from some very good and learned people.

Thank you kingwong -

I love my HI knives, and I value the skilled and hard working kamis who have provided what I have.

I appreciate you placing an order.

We should credit Tirtha for having the creative insight to make this knife!

I have a few Tirtha knives, and they are all great. Plus, I love the beer mug symbol on them too. 8^)

Well if bgz101 says it's fine as it is then i'm fine too :)

Not to mention I got really small hands so it may be more comfortable for me.

Let me know when to paypal my 235 bucks. Email sent to Auntie Yangdu :)

Good idea bgz101!

Yeah you got my drift :)

In this case even if the pins were half the thickness it'll be fine cause there are so many of them. But I'll go with the flow and take whatever offered.

At this price I'll go with simple sturdy leather foldover sheath will do. No need for a wood sheath.

Awesome idea:)

Great response, guys. Warms my heart, it does:)

If I got one as-is I'd just grind the front of the guard like so:

And I'll probably get ahold of Mrs.Yangdu in the next few days...one of these would be nice! :D

I took the Farmcata out today and did a little winter tree trimming. I don't have any good pictures but I easily cleaved through a few 2" oak branches, some dead rose limbs, etc and it still was shaving hair off my arm.

This knife is probably the most useful day-to-day knife I have.

Great design!

Well if you did that it will solve the finger wedging issue but not the fragile wood issue :)

Better to add than to deduct. Personally I decided I'll replace the wood with g10 if the wood breaks :)

Keep in mind that if you removed all the wood from this knife, that 'finger wedge' area would still be there because the metal extends back and the wood simply sits on top.

I mean I'd go after metal and wood,if the wood brakes? en,just trim it and have a front loop attachment place.

That is an excellent idea... Wonder why I didn't see that :)

Guys, get ur "Aid the kamis farmcata" now! a little something goes a long way in those parts of the world.

No worries now :)

Thank you everyone for the donation and Farmcata order for Feed the Kamis Fund.

Yesterday morning around 4.30 AM I received a phone call from Tirtha and Rajkumar Kamis. Tirtha said he will start on Farmcata Knife from today.
Thank you all
