the finest steel for the finest edge

Me. The 68 knives mentioned. I made 54 of them, the rest are here for my sheaths. Lots of guys use AEB-L. Secret to get great slicing ability, fine edge and edge holding ability with this steel is running it pretty hard. My regular edc knives I run at 62 rc the leather knives at 63rc. Like shannonlabs I have Peters do the ht.
I'd be interested in one.

My knives are pretty common in the cowboy/rancher world, mostly small edc types.

I even make job specific castrators (yep that's what those are by Mike's feet). I use the same steel and ht for these guys too. It just works.

Indeed! I just never thought to use it for a knife until I started seeing others doing it. I run it at 60rc plus deep cryo from Peters' and it's a great combination of ease of sharpness and edge holding. Pretty tough too in 1/8"& 5/32" thick.

It's nice! I do all my grinding on it after heat treat and it's great to work with. It can come bent from suppliers but once you get it flat it's super nice.

I have been absolutely blown away by how easy it is to get a well heat treated sandvick 12c27 or 14c28n blade dangerously sharp. Haven’t had a chance to try AEB-L yet. So many steels on my list I want to try.

Dave, are those all spoken for or will some be going on the website?

Bout 20 are spoken for, the rest will go on the website in a few days. Sewing up sheaths today. Best to either PM me here or follow me on Instagram. I announce on there so folks can go to the website.

I have a couple 14C28N blades and they perform VERY similar to my AEB L blades. Both steels get extremely sharp with ease and hold a decent edge. Good all around user-friendly steels

If you want a wild edge which cuts like crazy the inclusive angle should be about 17 degree and the hardness around 63 HRC. Generally very thin edge dulls because mechanical damage (edge rolling or micro chipping), for that reason carbide rich abrasion resistant supersteels are not necessarily useful in this case. Simple carbon steels can do the job.

When doing waaaayyyy too much research into knife steels while comissioning my first custom blade, I've read time and time again that AEB-L takes possibly the finest edge due to grain structure. I have no actual experience with the steel however.
