"The Finger" Need opinions on whether to keep or lose the finger grooves?
Just a practice blade (Proportions and steel are all wrong) but it's the handle design I'm not sure of.
This will proabably wind up as a shop or truck knife :barf:

If it works for you then I say keep them, but it may or may not be comfortable for anyone else imho.

Any time you cut more than one finger groove it becomes a situation of whose hand will fit and once that's decided this person can only hold the knife in one way. For a tactical or a hunter it certainly won't work. The workmanship from what i can see, on the other hand , looks well done. You did ask didn't you? And just my opinions of course. Frank

I really like it. But hey I put Micarta on Damascus. The first question is how does it fit in your hand? I don't agree with the fact that grooved knives only fit one hand size. Pick up a Randall Dive Knife with finger groove it will fit perfect. My wife is 4'10'' and I am 5'11'' a Randall will fit both our hands just like it was made for it. If it feels natural you got a winning design. You better send it to me for me to check out better. :)

Looks like you did a fine job on it. Why undo it? I don't know how or who you market your knives to, so can't really say if you'll find the right buyer. Never-the-less, I'm sure he's out there several times over. Ok, so it might not be a knife you put in your production line, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have the right to exist happily with someone. Does it? It looks great! For instance, I betcha it'd breeze its way hacking through ribs at hog butchering time!

Might increase the size of the first groove somewhat as it may crowd someone with bigger hands. I have just about average to a little larger hands, so seldom does anyone complain the handles are too small.
It just feels right...like a part of your hand when you pick it up.
As far as a reverse grip, it is a little slower to change than a blade with just one groove.
Normally I can do it in one quick flick of the wrist, but this is a little slower.
It does however feel as good in the reverse grip as a regular sabre grip.

Many people reverse the knife in their hand when actually using and not just looking at it. That is why, I believe for example, Loveless does not have any finger cutouts on his knives. It does limit the function for many people.

Don't change a thing, that knife is very appealing.

Maybe on any orders for that knife, you could get a hand measurement from the customer and compare it to your own. That would let you make small adjustments in the finger grooves if need be.

Well now, since you went and changed it, I do like that better than the original:thumbup:
The original still looks cool as all get out though, maybe you could offer both, and if the full finger grooves don't suit the buyer, you can go to the two finger handle.

Here are some better pics of the finished proto's.
They will be getting done in some stainless when I adjust some dimensions Etc
