Edit: ugh, *based on

So you joined the forums. Some have been collecting or using EDC type knives for years prior to discovering BF and the online knife community. Others never owned an EDC knife until after joining. You went through the threads, searched through the content. Maybe you even started threads yourself asking for recommendations.

My question is, what were the first things you purchased that were informed by content found on Blade Forums?

I bought a Bugout and was totally underwhelmed until I slapped on some titanium scales. Now, it's my most carried knife.

CRK, the first knives I now own, have been influenced by one way or another, BF, youtube, then I started developing my own taste in knives and it took off from there

Back then these forums were very small and I literally remember easily reading every last post on here within a couple of days of becoming a member. Most of the information on knives was still in print, but I remember ordering a ‘Busse Steel Heart and Battle Mistress soon after becoming a member.

From everything I read Everyone loved and recommended the Paramilitey 2.
Proof positive that I am NOT "Everyone".
It's a fun knife to Spydie flick, and the handle ergos are quite decent. Performance? For me it was slightly less than "meh". Plus I hated using the compression lock. It sucks for us wrong handers.
One day I may give the lefty version a shot.

There were many more positive results from reading here, but that was my first.

Blade Forums 2015 knife. Was a great idea with poor execution (F&F) so I didn't hold on to it for more than 7-8 months.

I had just picked up a Lone Wolf cocobolo lobo double action and an Al Mar sere2000 double action and was still itching for another. I read about the.protech defiance on here somewhere and had one a few days later!!! That was.in 08-09 I do believe! Didnt go for the member status till 13'!! Great ride through. This place has provided many hours.of happiness and SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE!! THANKS BLADEFORUMS AND ITS MEMBERS!!!!

Since joining I bought these folders: two Massdrop Keens, Shirogorov HatiOn Lite, Anso Neo, Cheburkov Strizh, KA CRK Inkosi Insingo, Trevor Burger EXK CFL, custom Laconico EZC, MBK EZC, MBK EWC, MBK XLC.

Before joining I had a KABAR Dozier Hunter, re-handled in ebony by a friend, and a Shirogorov F3. And a few SAKs.

Since joining I bought a fixed blade TRC Splinter 120, a Hackman Tapio Wirkkala puukko, and ordered custom fixed blade knives from Russell Reece, Mike McCarter and Bart Raeven. All makers here.

Before joining I had 30 years’ assortment of work knives in my former life as a chef. Wusthof knives were largely my mainstay. I also had other German specialty blades, Japanese slicers and Chinese cleavers.

I thought I knew something about knives till I joined BF. This place has been a font of knowledge.

This is a cool idea for a thread. I really can't remember what I bought based on forum recs back then, but I went to my buy history and turns out the first knives I bought here were a Spyderco Swick, a Dragonfly 2 (modified) and Manix 2 (pics have been removed but I believe it was sabergrind), a Swick 3, and a PM2 (modified). As you can see my love for Spyderco started early ;)

What I can easily credit Bladeforums with is my sort of becoming a steel snob, it led to me checking the steel of a knife before I buy and also becoming partial to high carbon steels.

BIG Busse SHBM...Straight Handle Battle Mistress...I've been broke ever since:rolleyes:

I had a few Spyderco, Buck, and CRKT knives before joining.
I think the first thing I bought after joining was a Spyderco Southard.
Then I went through a Himalayan Imports phase. Bought my first one off from a maker. Bought a half dozen more Spydercos. Discovered Dan Graves. More Spydercos. And a Case Tony Bose Zulu Spear somewhere along the way.

I was well into my knife obsession long before I joined BF, but I think the first knife I bought based on exposure to the forum was a ZT 0550.

I think one of the first knives I bought after joining was either my first Ontario Rat 1, quickly followed by a Utilitac 2. Man, I remember those two knives were HUGE on the board at the time (way back in 2013). Nowadays, I can't remember the last time I've seen the Utilitac 2 mentioned or recommended. Ah well.

I still have pics from the day I got that Rat 1, and recall being blown away by how smooth it was. I was super pleased with that knife, and in fact still have it. Of course, since then, I've bought dozens of knives in the years I've been a member, but those early knives were still awesome.
