The first knives you bought base on Blade Forums posts

I joined this forum because CRK had a sub forum here. Didn’t take long to go down that rabbit hole. Then venturing out across BF, there are so many varieties of knives that will cause dizziness until you’re really down the rabbit hole. A Hinderer was my first grab when I joined here. Then I learned about quality fixed blades and the great makers here and have replaced my kitchen knives with custom knives.

The one, the only, Ratweiler. If memory serves me, I traded @tknife an Al Mar Mini Sere and some boot for the Ratweiler. Man that was many moons ago.
Like a fool I traded the Ratweiler off. But not to worry for now I have finally replaced her with an Infiweiler. All's well with the world.

When I first joined, I was looking for a functional outdoor fixed blade that was modestly priced. I bought a SOG NW Ranger (I believe that was the name of it). Learned that I absolutely do not like partially serrated blades. The knife remains unused. It's an okay knife. This was during what I call my "sog days" and I grew out of that interest when they moved more production to China. I generally favor fixed blades with non plastic or rubber-like handles.

The biggest influence that forumites have had on me has been with Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC) slip joints. I saw them as essentially higher priced Case knives when I first started looking at them. But times changed and I am a big supporter of their knives.

Manix 2. I didnt understand the appeal of Spyderco. A manix was recommended for me to give a shot. Still carry that very knife every day at work. And own many more Spydies too.

BF convinced me to try the Spyderco Military; I went all in and got the fluted titanium. The XM-18 was another that my brother raved about for years that I finally bought. I purchased a couple Spyderco Gayle Bradley 1s and Advocates based on threads here also. Other than that, I've seen Chaves Knives and Spartan Blades among other brands that I might try.

Bladeforums introduced me to JK, Gossman and Breeden for my first custom fixed blades.

My first knife was a ganzo, can't remeber the model. Not a great knife imo, the blade and liners developed rust easy and it didint hold a great edge. Very weird but all 3 clip screws fell right out, no idea why. Sent it back and got a kershaw leek as my second and current knife, so I'm new to the whole knife thing. Thinking of getting a manix 2 lw next. :)
