Here is the first Malla khukuri to come in -- special order and especially made for RayC. It is one of the finest khukuris to come out of BirGorkha and we are proud to offer it. It is made pretty much to spec by Kumar and carries his mark. The carved handle which Ray requested is excellently done in rare gray horn as you can see. Ray's name is engraved on the blade, right side, near HI logo. What more can I say?

Now I know there may be more than a few who will say, why does this guy, Ray C, get his khukuri in 3 weeks when I've been waiting for mine for 4 months. Well, here's the reason.

Loyalty is one of the things that is very high on the list of "what is valued most?" at BirGorkha and Himalayan Imports. In fact, we have a hard time finding something more noble and valuable than loyalty. And this is why Ray C gets his khukuri done on a top priority basis and here's the story.

Back in 1991 when I was living in Nepal having a good time and drinking good Iceberg beer every night at Bugles and Tigers or the Dualagiri bar and trying to figure out if I wanted to stay full time in Nepal and live out my life there it was Ray C who was back here in the US running Himalayan Imports at night after he put in a full day at his regular job -- and for no pay!

It was not easy then. We had no computer, website, fax machine, nothing. We ran ads in mags which ate up half our revenues and I know for a fact that Ray answered many letters writing in longhand at the kitchen table at night after his wife had gone to bed. If it had not been for Ray C there might well not be any Himalayan Imports today so for this great help you extended to all of us we thank you brother. We all thank you, everybody from the apprentices at BirGorkha to the owner, Kami Sherpa. Take this khukuri with our love. May it serve you well and never fail. We pray you never have to draw this knife in anger or to defend yourself -- but if you must you know you have the prayers and blessings of the kamis and old Gorkhas with you.

And if you want another khukuri of any kind you will go to the top of the priority list again. We are loyal to old friends, brothers and nephews who have helped us and you have helped more than anybody.

And Broken Arrow got his, too. He rode in with Ray C. Perhaps they thought at BirGorkha that Ray C and Ray T were the same fellow.

Those who are waiting for the Malla take heart and be patient. It is a great khukuri and we will get them here soon but first we must repay old debts. I know you will all understand everything I have said here and will agree with it.

Great forumites make a great forum.

That is a beauty Bill and thank you for the kind words, the feeling is mutual.
As for keeping HI around it was really you,who did that. How could anyone think that they could start a buisness with no stock no product line, when the product is coming from halfway around the world, with no controll over what comes in or when it will come in.Spend hundreds of dollars,to advertise and when the product finally does come in send it to the customer with out getting any money up front plus you pay the shipping. How about that?
Thanks again for all of that.

Oooooh! That is gooooooorgeous! Does the horn handle really have the bluish cast that it looks like on my monitor?

This one is way too pretty for me to own, but I feel privileged to see even a picture of it. A classy knife for a classy guy from a class act.

Ray C I shall thank you too. Who knows if I would have anything to spend my money on if it weren't for you? Tell Uncle Bill you want a Gelbu Special made by Bura that has silver bolster/buttcap scabbard chape, 21" long, wood handle, with a smileing sun engraved on the blade-I'll pay you back. I can't remember when I ordered that-I think three weeks ago. Even though it's been such a short time I can barely wait for that damned thing. Thanks again RayC I haven't had a girlfriend for a couple of months so what else would I spend my money on?

To go out of his way to help a friend the way he did, in my opinion Ray C is an outstanding guy.

Khukuri FAQ

The handle really is that color. I didn't pull it from the scabbard though when I stopped in Wednesday.

Going to have to tighten my schedule to make it impossible to stop by the cantina. Even leaving the air and stereo running with my wife and kid in the car, I got to heft a Kumar 25" Kobra. Got a few projects to finish up first though.

Pakcik Bill.

I guess it looks better than the 1st one ... is the blade width is narrower?

Ray C and everyone,
I received my Malla Khukuri yesterday and it is a beauty! The handle is made of horn and it isn't engraved. The Cho is also different than your Ray. Overall length is 19.5 inches and the blade is thick, but feels light. This puppy is fast, but not as fast as the Kobra. Whoever is on the waiting list for this style of Khukuri will not be disappointed! Oh, yeah Kumar made this one.
