I've done the same thing more times than I can remember. In fact, I just did it with an 18 inch Kobra about 30 minutes ago -- tight scabbard and due to split chest I am a little clumsy. That 1/4 inch slit in the back of the scabbard will cost BirGorkha $20 in a discount to Rob.
The tip will always punch thru where you are turning the corner. The tighter the scabbard the better the chance for punching thru the back.
If you hold the scabbard near the top you won't punch a hole in your hand if you punch thru the back of the scabbard. And, you won't cut yourself but you can stick yourself pretty good if you get unlucky. Do you think I should put another post up showing the safe way to replace a khukuri?
I'll get this alert over to the shop -- another reason for "perfect" scabbards done by sober sarkis.
In the meantime, be careful, in, out, and even sideways.
