I just got home from collecting the holiday vittles ...... Burger fixin's, Silver Queen corn on the Cobb, my neighbor Steve's most excellent tomatoes..... Hot dogs....fresh picked cucumbers and Vidalias.....YUMMM....

Along with that, I am going to sit down with a copy of the Declaration and the Constitution of the United States and read it all the way through...... From start to quit......Those few sheets of paper are the foundation of the greatest experiment in how humans can successfully act as a community...... It is the engineering blueprint for the greatest engine for human good that has ever been....... It is not a holiday given much to contemplation but, more of action..... Bonfires and cook outs and fireworks(yay!!!!!!!)....... I love all that, I truly do, and I love the Fourth and Thanksgiving for their American uniqueness ...... The two times a year that has tremendous significance for all of us....... It is a time of thankfulness for me as I spend a few hours contemplating the handful of men men who risked it all to create this most incredible intellectual and most practical revolution........ Would that they were in charge now.......

My thanks also go to those who serve, those who have served and those who died to keep this magnificent engine free of royalty and other tyrants.........

If you are on the move this weekend .... Travel safe and have a rousing good time wherever you are !!!!!!....

All my Best....

Ethan

Likewise, Ethan. The best to you and yours. A rereading of some of our founding documents is also quite apropos given the fact that they are continuously under attack. I will join you this weekend in that undertaking.

To all my friends across the pond have a great (and safe) upcoming 4th of July.

Thank you Gassy,

Thank you for reminding me that I need to give thanks as well to those who have stood with us...... You Aussies have shed blood with us and I think of you as brothers with a slightly different accent...... I just recently finished a book that featured a number of Coastwatchers in it..... Balls the size of basketballs with the consistency of well tempered steel..... You guys are the best!!!!!!....... When Bobber and Len were here we talked a little bit about our kinship in arms with the Norwegians, another group to have beside you and not against you ...... Many thanks.....

Very kind words ethan, thank you.

My 6yr old daughter just finished kindergarten at one of the few patriotic schools left in our country. She knows the pledge, America the beautiful and the national anthem along with others. She can resight parts of the Constitution and Declaration of Independance. Most of her friends live in the city and don't have any idea what any of these things are, even the kids 2-4yrs older. I hope this 4th everyone takes the time to teach their children these simple things that our generation grew up cherishing, before its to late.

Happy Birthday America! And Happy Fourth to all...

I will be working, but I will hopefully be home in time to catch The Boston Pops which is a tradition.

Wow, great post. I concur all the way through. I hope everyone here has a great Independence Day! Keep it in mind that to be American is to fight for freedom, in whatever way you can.

Also, home grown tomatoes are just the best. It's the little things like that that make me proud to live in the country of this country.

Great words Ethan. I always like to come back to the forums after all the news lately... Good to have some true hearted Americans to hear from!

Have a safe 4th everybody, and God bless.

The fourth has special meaning to me, It is my son's birthday.
